Default Knights of the old republic no cd fix with vista, help needed

Basically it worked fine with xp but since getting vista i haven't been able to get it in the correct folder, it says "can not create short cut here" or something like that.
Ive tried moving the folder to desk top but its still the same, for the record the game is fully patched and i have the correct no cd files.
can anyone help me with this bastard.

You don't want to copy a shortcut, you need to copy the No-CD .exe and then paste that .exe to the games folder/directory, to me it sounds like you are copying the exe, but then trying to make it a shortcut?

No, i simply download the file from game burn world and then open the file then try to drag and drop it into the sw kotor main directory and all i get is a message saying "windows can't create a short cut here" ?? when i had xp all of my games were fine with these type of files but now i have vista only half of them work.
Any ideas anyone ?

So you are using WinRar to open the .zip/.ace/.rar files? What you need to do is extract the .exe to the games directory/folder (where you installed the game) replacing the original exe with the No-CD one. Another simpler way is to extract the .exe to desktop and copy and paste the .exe to the games directory/folder.

Vista doesn't like transfering exe. files between partitions for some reason just cut and paste and it wont turn it into a short cut
