Playin halflife 2 without steam?

Is there a way i can play half life 2 without updating steam after i install. It took me 4 hours to update a couple of weeks ago. Then when i went to play it yesturday it needed to be updated again. I can only get dial up internet where i live and im sick of having to updating steam for hours everytime i want to play it.

should be an offline mode.. At least with mine there is, you can play it from v.1.0 clean install without updating, just dont run Steam, disconnect from the net, then run HL2.

So if i reinstall i dont need to update it to play. What do you mean clean install without updating.

Should not need to reinstall..

Should be able to run the HL2 shortcut with steam closed and with the net disconnected.

i uninstalled now when i reinstall when i play click on HL2 it will auto matically run steam. Then i need to update before i can play and then every time i want to play it needs to connect to the internet and logon to steam before i can play.
