Default PC Freezing during gameplay

I am having trouble when using the Sims 2 and the expansion packs. In gameplay my PC just freezes, and the only way out of the game is to switch the computer off.

My PC has more than the minimum required specification to run the game, and this is the only game we have installed. Are there any patches out there that can solve this problem? I have already tried to get onto the Sims 2 website, but I am having trouble connecting to it.

Better bet would be to test other games on it as well to see if the problem is the game or your PC.

Sims 2 requires quite a bit of resources and can cause a system to hang if it begins to overheat.

Check your fans, be sure they are clean, replace any that seem to be running slower than normal, feel for heat, you can usually tell if something is getting way too hot. Normal temp should be very lightly warm. CPU/FAN and Vid Card/Fan

You may also want to check your drivers, installer a different version of drivers for your video card, newest does not always mean better, but if you are using an old set, you may want to try a new set.

Try also disabling EAX if you have it enabled, check third party codecs, such as DivX, uninstall if you have them to see if they are the cause.
