not the new way, but some protections such as newer StarForce and Newer SecuROM protections read bits of data here and there across the whole CD/DVD instead of just a portion in the beginning.

They did this to try to prevent any workround for playing from a MiniDisc, making it harder, but not impossible. Nothing atm can be done about it, since the full cd info is needed by the protection to play.

works on some of my systems and seems to not do anything on others lol, but, if you do not purchase it, you do not get much gain, it does alot of known tweaking however, mainly for those not really experienced with manually tweaking their registry, ect..

It does its job, and is cheap, think I paid like $9 USD when I purchased it some years ago. You get free updates for life for the product, so no need to worry about needing to pay if another version is released,

Personally, I prefer to tweak manaully, but I try several programs on occasion just as something to recommend to customers. GameBoost does however work good on alot of systems.. It is easy, only a couple buttons, you cannot really mess anything up, and you can restore the changes if it does nothing or makes anything slower, so it is not bad at all.

One product I highly recommend however, does not tweak anything, it is a defragging system, but so far it has ben the best one I have used, At least since OnTrack FixIt utilities back some years ago.

easy to use, offers many options for defragging, checks for errors, ect.. Great tool and overall better performance gain than I have gotten from other defragging tools, but again, depending on which defrag option you choose.

For first time, I recommend Complete/Name option, it will take a while, but well worth it,

You also have the option to defrag on reboot before windows is loaded, this will defrag EVERY file since windows is not loaded yet to lock some files.. Again, major advantage, highly recommened, bit on the expensive side, but is a great program.

Many more options than that, but a general idea.
