I spend some days trying to make this work now. I found this forum via the page from which I downloaded the patch, so I thought I'd try my luck. Everywhere I've looked the same no-cd patch is referred to: TheTempleOfElementalEvilv2.0NoCDFixedexeEng.rar
Problem is, the file included is an .exe file but it is not executable - I get an 'acces denied' msg from windfows. If I replace the original TOEE.EXE with this one the game wont run. Anybody knows how to work around this?

Download the latest patch from dlh.net (v.3.0) and get the crack for it from here:
http://www.gameburnworld.com/gp/gamefixes/thetempleofelementalevil.shtml
On the other hand, if you really want, you can get the Circle of Eight modpack from here:
http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6695
Follow the instructions and use the crack for v2.0 from the first link.
That mod offers some cut things from the final version of the game, restored by that small, but dedicated community, adds more fixes and some new stuff. Everything is carefully balanced, so you won't get uber items, but you will have some nice extras.

Thanks for replying. This is the third forum I tried and the first reply I got :)

That's what I've been trying to do for days now... The fixed exe for v.2 which you've linked to is a 33 kB unexecutable file. If I replace the original TOEE.EXE with that one the game wont run :/
I was hoping someone could explain to me how to aply this patch/crack. I've tried all sorts of combo's. With the 33 kB crack the game just wont run. Using v.1 crack I get to play but with all sorts of bugs - no looting - crash on map change / quick save / what not.
So again, please explain how this file is supposed to be used. I am at my wit's end.

The file is in a rar archive. You can get winrar shareware from
http://www.rarlabs.com/download.htm
Or 7zip, which is freeware from:
http://www.7-zip.org/
Extract the file from archive and overwrite the exe.

Again, that's what I've been doing. Allow me to elaborate:
1. Install entire game.
2. Run official patches 1 and 2 as described in Co8's guide.
3. Extract cracked toee.exe to installation dir, overwriting the original - this i where it gets fishy: The exe file is only 33 kB. It wont execute, if I try to tun it I get an "acces denied" msg. If I try to open it in a hex editor I get a blank page and a similar "acces denied" msg. Anyways continuing in good faith --->
4. Extract circle of eight mod pack 5.5.0 to TOEE dir and run TFE-X.exe - long wait-time - Activate CO8 module in TFE-X fron end once it is ready - even longer wait-time - result: see attached screenshot.
Now, as I said before, I've tried various combos - like extracring the cracked exe to toee dir before patching which is useless as the official patches overwrite the toee.exe present in the dir - extracting it after activating Co8 module - no avail. As I've stated before, the .exe file within the .rar file is unexecutable and unaccessable - I even tried opening it with winrar suspecting it was another archive renamed to exe. Any kind of attempt to open this file with any kind of program results in "acces denied" - in fact even just copy and pasting it returns acces denied. My hunch is that a third 'patch' is needed to 'inject' the 33 kBs into the toee.exe instead of overwriting it or something along that line. But thats just a hunch, and having no hacking skills whatsoever, I've no idea how to verify it.
So once again, have anybody actually had any succes with this file? And if so, could that someone explain how they did it?

Do you have any Antivirus active? I know that AVG is detecting that exe as a virus (and it's not the only AV that detects the older cracks or even some trainers as viruses)

I'm aware of that. I have AVG installed but disabled by default. I only activate it when I'm suspicious of something. For the installation of this program I went as far as to disable the two running avg-processes in process manager (avgupsvc.exe & avggamsvr.exe).
Now that you've mentioned it I just tried downloading the file on another computer (the one I'm at ATM) and the file checks out fine. It has the TOEE icon (doesnt on the other comp.) and gives me another error message upon executing - asking for temple.dll (which i suppose is only natural as I havent got the game installed here) so I guess your hunch is right.
I'm uninstalling AVG right now to verify ... And YES! It seems to be the solution (got icon and 'missing temple.dll' msg now). Thank you very much sir, for taking your time to help me out.
(Beats me how the AV shuts down files without reporting anything - even when I've disabled it...)

The Resident Shield it's still active even if you stop AVG, as that component integrates itself in the Windows shell.
Qucik guide for only disabling that thing when you need it (at the end of the day, AVG is one of the better AV out there):
1. go to system tray
2. open avg interface
3. in overview look for Resident Shield
4. double click on Resident Shield
5. you should see a Resident Shield settings
6. uncheck Resident Shield active
7. click on Save Changes
Repeat the operation when you want to reactivate the Resident Shield, at point 6 you check Resident Shield active.
P.S.: enjoy the game
