wtf?

these past two days, i can't download any thing from gameburnworld. all i get are pop-ups trying to get me to install winfixer.

i am not familiar with winfixer and consider ANYTHING that a website prompts me to download and install on my machine may be virus, backdoor or spyware.

please fix this so that we can download the files we need!

well, they are not viruses or backdoors, but they could contain spyware, i dont install nor see any of it, and honeslty, the advertisement is needed as it is how duffman supports his site, unless someone starts chucking cash his way to pay for all his services :P

If you have proper setup of your browser, you wont need to worry about popups. I use IE and don't even have probs. Enable popup blocking.

Else, Use Firefox or Opera :)

i know he needs to support the site with advertising. my problem is that the no-cd files are NOT accessible anymore. i am worried that i will have to say "yes" to its stupid offer to scan my windows registry (no frickin thanks - prolly a spybot stealing my cd keys) in order to get access to the no-cd file i am trying to download.

why can't i get the no-cd files anymore???

yllekm, you should not be getting any ads of this kind, anywhere on the site, the only page that has a popup is the download pages, and that is only a standard page popup that is not too instrusive, you should not be getting any Active X ads, as we are strongly against these types of advertisements, as they are just plain annoying. You still should be able to download from the 6 mirrors.

Please e-mail us http://www.gameburnworld.com/contact.shtml and provide the URL to the page where the ads are being displayed.

Duffman,

Thanks for your response but the offending Activex ad is no longer present and I can once again download no-cd files.

No worries, any ideas where the ActiveX was appearing, was it localised just to the download pages?

sorry for the delay in responding. yes, it was only coming up with download pages but...

i have been encountering another problem lately. now when i try to link to a fix from a game's list of fixes page, another dark blue box opens but nothing happens. this comes up on my XP SP2 box but i was able to do two downloads with my win98se box. it was tough getting there - one ad slides in over everything else and seems to be what was holding up my XP box. windows for "registry cleaner" or offering to scan my registry also popped-up when i actually initiated the downloads, but i was able to ignore them and still do the dowload. URLs to the popups were:

http://z1.adserver.com/w/cp.x;rid=303;tid=2;ev=1;dt=3;ac=7;c=270;;nc=1

http://z1.adserver.com/w/cp.x;rid=303;tid=2;ev=1;dt=3;ac=7;c=270;

there are links in the second one that offers to run the scan and points to:

http://z1.adserver.com/w/cp.x;rid=303;tid=2;ev=2;ac=7;mid=2879

when i close the pop-ups, i get a system message that says:

"VBScript: Advertisement - Registry Cleaner

WARNING: You have not completed the scan. Would you like to scan for any correct any registry for problems now (recommended)?

Yes No"

I know the second sentence of the warning looks incorrect but that's exactly what it said.

after the two downloads i did with my win98se box though, now it is behaving just like my XP box and i can't get anything. this is happening as i write this.
