Most likely the error has not be reported to MS by anyone yet, or they are looking into it if someone has. It will appear in their knowledge base when they find what the cause is and have a solution.

Best thing to do would be when you get the error, it usually will ask if you want to send a report to MS, I would click send so MS gets the info and is able to look into it.

yeah i'm getting the same problems too, although microsoft are not entirely helping. theres no way to e-mail them unless the game's on their website so i'll have to wait until i've got enough cash to ring up their hot line.

on a another note i tried updating my visiual basic library to no effect.
wonder what it could be?

I would not pay to use their hotline! I fully support MS, not alot of people (mostly the Linux community) like MS, but they do make great software that is easy to use.

I use both Linux and Windows, and honestly, MS is a bit "hard" to get support from. Unless you are a large corporate business or alike, you will most likely end up wasting money try to get an answer such as one for this problem.

you can try several things however, still would be your choice to pay for hotline support, but in the meantime,

Run Scandisk on your Hard Drive(s), runs Spyware + Virus scans, Clean anything found, clear cache of your system such as the Temp directory, Browser Temps files, ect..

Defrag the Hard Drive(s)

Here is a batch file I made a while back, been using it some, hmm, well 1 1/2 years maybe?

Anyways. Extract it and run it, then Choose the options you want to use each time you clean the system and the click ok and exit the dialog that pops up.

Next, right click the file and choose edit.

Find:
/sageset: 11

Change it to:
/sagerun: 11

Save and close the file, then run it again and let it do its magic.

It will clean your system of temp trash files as well as clear the prefetch data on your OS.

Do this before Defragging. It will help performance at the very least, but never know, it may also solve some probs!

unfortunately still no joy!
i cant think what could be causing this problem.
my specs are average for the game and my comp is now wonderfully clean and tidy.
argghhhhh. hope those peeps at microsoft know there's a problem by now.......

Have you tried running the game in compatibility mode?

Right click the shortcut to the game, goto Properties,

Click the Compatibility tab and enable "run this program in compatibility mode for"

Switch it to Windows 2000 first to see if it works, if not, try other settings such as Win98 and WinME

Ya, Id say it is, sorry were not able to help you better atm,

Can you post your system specs, and driver versions your using. Also are you able to access and change settings in the BIOS such as Aperture, Fast Writes, Side Band Addressing, ect.. ? If so you may want to tinker with those settings to see if any help. But most likely it is an issue with your system that the exe is not liking for some reason, I will keep an eye out for similar probs on the web and try to find any working solutions however.

I just bought the game yesterday and am having the exact same issue. Granted my system isn't exactly an uber-computer (Pentium 1.8Ghz, 256 RAM, GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X, SoundBlaster Live! Value) but damn it I meet the min sys specs....

Tried all the other suggestions, defragged the hard drive, updated pretty much all the drivers, disabled Norton, ran a spywear check, ran in compatibility mode, still nada. I think we may just have to wait for it to be patched....oye.

hmm, I am going to install this game later tonight on another machine I have here. I will use a P 1.2GH CPU, 256-768MB Ram (will try 256 first then add more as I go along if problems exist.) SB 5.1 and Geforce MX 440 and see if I come up with the same issues, if so I will play around and see if there is a solution, seems many are having this problem atm.

Anyhow, till then!

good im glad im not the only one :D make me feel a little better. Anyone know were you can email microsoft about this cuz i sure dont...

Crypton

hmm, well for MX 440, I don't think will work, the game "requires" FULL Pixel Shaders v.1.1 which MX 440 series does not support. So scratch that idea of messing around with the MX 440. You will need a new video card to even attempt to play it. You can pickup FX series cards fairly cheap, 5900 ect.. are very cheap by now and support Pixel 1.1

Didn't even think to ask the origional poster what card they were using, but if MX 400, then that is the problem and MS tech support will only tell you the same, you will need a new Video Card.

http://www.chiefvalue.com/app/productdetails.asp?submit=&item=14-122-197R&ATT=Video%20Cards&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch (PCI-Express Version)

or

http://www.logicalplus.com/bfggefx59oc1.html (AGP 2x/4x/8x Version)

They are very good cards for the price.. Plus they will run alot of games out atm, such as Doom 3, HL2, ect.. ect.. Support for DX9 and Pixel/Vertex Shading 1.1

and a mx 4000? gues that wont work iether then >.< i got the same error

Crypton
25-09-2005, 09:25 PM
I don't believe so, the 4000 is in the MX 4xx series. And are stripped of Pixel Shader 1.1 support. The 4000 is just a bit more beefed up on RAM speed and Clock speed. which is the new model MX 460 card basically. Still no Pixel 1.1 support on that line of cards however.

you can always check on
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/games/gameadvisor/default.mspx

To see if a game will run on your system and how well, but atm Fable is not on there yet.

Crypton, where did you find the part about the cell shading? I checked both nVidia's webpage as well as the card settings itself prior to purchasing the game and couldn't really find anything about it so I thought I was gold, guess not. I may try the 3d analyze thing, not sure. But thanks for the help I appreciate it. Other than that...anyone interested in a barely played copy of Fable????

For you maybe, but not for everyone, the program itself is still in beta stages. And is unstable, there are tons of systems that it will blue screen and lockup. But glad its working out for you :)

Ah, thank you. I checked the MS sites and noticed the lack of my card on the list (on the other hand I doubt they check every single card in existance and didn't pay overly much attention to it). I also checked the part about the 64MB memory on the card but when I checked the nVidia site it stated the max memory on my card was 64. I just missed the part about the pixel shading. My loss I guess. Thanks again for the help.

Don't worry dude that's not a hardware problem. I am also facing the same problem.
I have AMD Athlon 64 3000+, MSI K8N SLI Platinum, Creative Labs Live 24 Bit 7.1 Channel Audio, 1 GB Twinmos Dual-Channel DDR 400MHZ RAM & GeForce 6600 PCI-e with 256 MB Memory and Pixel Shader 3.0 support. This is definitely a software problem. The only option we are left with is to wait for a patch released by developers.
Take Care Bye.

I tried to experiment different actions in game where it crashes. I've got this result. It crashes at the upgrade pedestal where you upgrade your melee, ranged and magic powers and abilities. Whenever you upgrade your character's will the game will crash.
 Solution Don't upgrade will, you can upgrade skill and the other related to melee combat, the game runs fine no crashes no worry. Though you cannot become a magician untill the patch is released.

Plz reply If it fixes the problem with other sufferers like me.

Thanks.
