View Full Version : Driv3r Problems

ant

I have installed driv3r and started playing it and arrived at the second mission when you have to follow a police car. The game frequently freezes for some 3 seconds but when it resumes it seems that the car kept going and i find myself smashed in another car or in a wall.

I tryied to turn off all grapichs options but in vain, i updated but the version of driv3r.exe was also 1.0.0.0 and so applied the same crack again.

Did anyone have these problems and can help me solve them.

Graphics card perhaps? hard to say, does it stutter?

Crypton

As Duffman mentioned, could be GFX Card, What type/model are you using? CPU Speed and Ram Memory Type/Ammount?

You may also want to try scanning for spyware/adware as well as defragment and scandisk on your drives.

Defragmenting will increase some of the speed by allowing your HDD's (Hard Drives) to read data faster since all info will be together instead of spread all over the drive in different places. (keeps the heads from swapping back and forth and read inline)

I am terrible at my explanations this morn.. Just woke up, forgive me.

First thing,

http://housecall60.trendmicro.com/en/start_corp.asp?id=scan
Scan for Virus + Spyware Option.

Second, You may also want to try SpyBot Search & Destroy (there are many others but SB S&D will suffice for now :)
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

Third,
run ScanDisk, (Right click on Drive C, D or any other hard drives you have and goto Properties, then Click the Tools tab and choose Check Now under ScanDisk (Also BE SURE to check Auto Fix Errors. It will ask to run after reboot, ok it, but dont allow reboot just yet, tell it on next reboot)

Do this for each hard drive, it will que them all up, when on the final drive (unless you only have 1 drive then go ahead and reboot)

Once you have told all drives you want to scan them, go ahead and reboot, they will start scanning on their own, so just let them be till windows boots back up normally again..

Once you do that, follow the same steps and in Tools choose Defrag, and defragment each drive you have, (can only do one at a time however..)

See if that helps your performance at all, you may also want to be sure you are not running tons of applications in the background

-----------------------------------------------------------

This step is optional, but if you really want to be sure your not running tons of things, I can help you cleanup your startup..

Download HiJackThis (its a good application and safe no worries)
http://downloads.subratam.org/hijackthis.zip

Extract to a folder anywhere.. Then run and choose System Scan and Log Only, then post the info in the resulting log file here so I can tell you what to remove and what is safe to keep. (you may get an error on the first time you run it, just ignore it and restart the application and then run again)

Please note you do not have to follow this step if you choose not to, but is a good idea.. And please do not do anything other than Scan + Log unless you know what your doing as it is very possible to mess something up.

// Regards,
Crypton

I will take a look at the Log,

For now, goto Start Menu > Run type in DXDIAG and press enter

Goto the Sound Tab and drop the slider bar to the Left all the way "No Accelleration" for sound,

then click Exit in DXDIAG and do a quick reboot and see if it helps at all, meanwhile I wil analyse this HiJackThis log and see if anything should be removed from startups ect.

Most of these should be removed, You can remove them in HiJackThis, it will also make backups of all removed items.

1 however,

Make sure that is needed and is your ISP DNS Servers, if so, then ignore it and dont remove it.

The rest are unneeded to run properly and only bloat your IE. Reboot will be needed after removal to be sure they are unloaded from memory.

this machine im typing on atm runs the game fine,

nVidia Geforce FX 5900 Ultra 256MB
1GB DDR
SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 Gamer Sound Card
AMD Athlon XP 1800+

Also runs on my wifes system

Same setup, cept she runs a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 128MB

Is your Sound Card DirectX 9.0c-compliant ?? This could be the major problem as if it is not compliant, it will not run, Only way to get it running would be to disable sound completly.

ant
09-09-2005, 09:53 AM
how do i know if My SoundCard is DirectX 9.0c-compliant?? Also when i run the game, when it loads it starts saying the words of the cutscenes, however i see the loading screen then when it loads completely and i'm ready to play the sound would have began repeating itself the second time.

Should tell you in the manual that came with the card, if it is built onto the motherboard check the manuals that came with your system or board.

You can also check the manufactuers website to see.

But it sounds to me like the main issue is the soundcard, seeing as your having problems with the sound portion of the game. You can try seeing if there are new drivers for that sound card your using, or can always buy a SB Live 5.1 (they are pretty cheap now, around $25 USD wihtout the live drive) and will work as the drivers updated make them compliant with DX9

ant

i have the SoundMAX sound card that comes with an Asus P4S800-MX motherboard, on the manual it is said to output 5.1 surround, DirectX 8.0, DirectSound 3D, A3D, MacroFX, ZoomFX, MultiDrive 5.1 and EAX.

and on the dxdiag tests it says it does not support hardware buffering.

now how do i know if it supports DirectX 9 and how to update its drivers as i cant find them on the asus website.

Crypton
11-09-2005, 03:19 AM
on the manual it is said to output 5.1 surround, DirectX 8.0, DirectSound 3D,

^^ says it right there in the manual, its DX8 compatible card, so it does not support DX9

You can check the Asus website to see if there are drivers for that sound chip that will make it DX9 compatible.

ant
11-09-2005, 08:28 AM
where can i find the drivers??

i went to www.asus.com but didnt find anything as when i go to the downlaod section i only find motherboard related files but nothing specific for the sound card

Crypton
12-09-2005, 04:49 AM
Usually you will need to find the model of your board listed in their downloads section. There should be some software related to your Motherboard, such as BIOS updates and Drivers which may be updated for the hardware built into your motherboard such as the sound device being used.

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx

^^ start there, and select the right model ect. for the board you have, it should take you to the location of a list of files/updates/drivers ect.

my motherboard is an X Series and that isnt on the website, so how do i do?

Crypton

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?Type=All&model=P4S800-MX

Click Drivers link once on that page and scroll down till you see the below info.

Version 5.12.01.3665 2003/10/01update

OS Win9x / Win98SE / WinME / Win2K / WinXP

Description SoundMAX Audio Driver version 5.12.01.3665 WHQL for Windows 98/ME/2K/XP.

File Size 2.14 (MBytes)

All the models in that series of board use the same "hardware" there are just some features that 1 has that another may not have, the sound driver will be the same.

ant, there is only so much we can help you with, we mainly provide help here for those using files from the site, we can offer some general help for games, but it seems you have tried most of what Crypton has said, and it has not fixed the problem, this is where you now send an email to the support team of the game developers, they will be able to pinpoint the problem quicker.

The origional problem as your card does not support DX9, which the game requires.

If your using the latest drivers already and its not working, then it is evident that the drivers also did not make the card support DX9 via Software.

So the only option is as Duffman stated email support and maybe they have a workaround.

If not, then you will need to buy an add in sound card that supports DX9 in order to get it running properly.

I dont really like the new audigy cards to be honest, alot of probs on simple things with them, but they do have more support for more games and apps. Its a trade off I guess. I use SB simply because of the support it gives, the new Audigy 2 card I have atm has tons of probs. I would stick with SB Live or Audigy 1 for now at least until they work out the kinks in the drivers on some systems/applications.

jeez man lol, 256? Ya id say there are alot of things running better now. On XP, even 512 is too low, though 512 is not "bad" XP itself it is recommened to have 1GB+ to have any advantage on it at all.

I want to know your PC specs. That means the CPu power, how much RAM do you have, what video card do you have, if you have the latest DirectX version, if you have the latest drivers for your video and sound card. Also the operating system you use: XP, XP with SP2, XP with SP, Vista, Vista with SP1. Those informations would help to clear the things a bit.

Yup. That's your problem. The video card. It is a card that's integrated on the motherboard, not a stand alone card (like Nvidia or ATI). The last Nvidia on AGP that you can find on the market is the GeForce 7950 (if you are lucky, second option is 7800 which is a lot more stable - they should be very cheap, by now, but you really need a new computer, preferably made but someone who is really computer savvy). You will not be able to play a lot of games, as the support for the integrated graphic cards was dropped years ago. Sometimes, you might get lucky and the game works, but most of the time you'll end up with messages like that.
Really sorry, but you will not be able to play that game.

I'm sorry to say it, but the graphic card won't change much. The processor doesn't pack enough punch for the modern games (that frequency was good 6 years ago and in PC life expectancy that means centuries ago), you need some extra RAM. Finding the right components to do a mini upgrade (the cheap solution) might prove more than a challenge. You have a chance to get them only on sales or at the second hand, as the compatible parts with your PC were phased out between 1 and 3 years ago. Also requires to have a good knowledge about your motherboard and what can you add on it and if with a BIOS update it can support some components. A new PC it's the best choice and better not to be something with the videocard integrated (Nvidia or ATI are the only options if you are playing games).
