Open the rar archive using "winrar" inside you will find RCT3.exe, copy it to the install folder of your game and choose yes to overwrite the old file.

If your on Windows 2000 or XP, you can right click the games shortcut, goto properties, then click "Find Target" and it will open the location where the new file should be placed. (Rename the old file in case you need it later for update patches)

i installed the no-cd patch, but when i try to start it it gives me an error, "RCT3.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

it makes it rather hard to play...any ways of fixing that?

You replaced the original exe with the No-CD one?

Some Game Fixes can have problems on some systems, there is no guarantee that all Game Fixes will work on all PC's.

Could be wrong version as well.

That NOCD fix is for version 1.2 of the game.

http://www.gameburnworld.com/gp/gamefixes/rollercoastertycoon3.shtml

There is a list of v.1.0 v.1.1 and v.1.2

I would recommend putting back the origional exe. Downloading the upgrade from the games website to update it to 1.2 then put the 1.2 fixed exe back again and try.

Otherwise, try the v.1.0 fix as you may be using the v.1.0 origional install.

well, i uninstalled it. deleted all of the old files in order to start from scratch. i downloaded RCT3 from 3 different places, one was corrupt, the other 2 had the same result. "RCT3.EXE has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

The files are not corrupt. You need to use the latest, msot up to date of WinRAR from http://www.rarsoft.com to extract the files.

And what do you mean you deleted the files? You should not be deleting, just replacing one exe in this case.

think he meant he deleted the folder after uninstalling to be sure he was in fact installing fresh files and not getting stuck with any that were possibly left over from the uninstall.

And as Duffman stated, make sure to get the latest Winrar from the link he posted, some of the files being packed with new versions have problems when opened with older version due to the way the packing process has been changed.

Winrar (new versions) have an option that can only be opened by the new versions of Winrar, supposed to provide a better packing ratio over old ones.

Winzip also has an equivalent called "Portable" where Winzip has to be used to open zip files stored with that method due to the way they changed it.

Of course, Winrar I am sure will update (may have already) to enable opening of zips stored with that method, but to be sure make sure you are always using the latest version of Winrar and Winzip.

well i meant that when i deleted everything - starting from scratch, like deleted the old RCT3 i downloaded and the other patches. Then redownloaded it all. The file i said was corrupt was one of the three new RCT3 that i downloaded. The other 2 worked fine. The only problem is when i try to start it...if i use the .exe that comes with the program it says "insert cd"..of course, when i try to use the no-cd patch, it gives the "RCT3.EXE has encountered an error and needs to close" error. in every situation i have tried, that's what the result is....any ideas?

none here, I have used the fixes for this game and all have worked for me. So not sure what could be the problem. Make sure you have updated your pc with the latest drivers for your hardware and scan your system for spyware/viruses.

check:
http://housecall60.trendmicro.com/en/start_corp.asp?id=scan

Do complete scan + spyware..
