View Full Version : newbie help please
I need to copy a disc, tho only one. A game that i play constantly and the disc gets beaten up from being put in and out of the drive. I tried a couple nocd patches but they caused an issue with the game. So i'm not interested in doing this more than once or getting involved and spending hours learning the procedure. Nor do i want to pay for software i will be using once. So the question is, can anyone point me to a freeware or trial version of a software that will easily allow me to make a copy of my COD2 disc. I only have one optical drive, so i'll need something that makes an image as opposed to OTF. I tried something called game copy 2.0 but it didn't work. Any ideas? Thanks.

try using a program called Alcohol 120% i found it to be the best program to backup my games download it here (trial)
http://www.alcohol-soft.com/
also you need something to scan the exe to find out which protection it uses try one of these
http://www.gameburnworld.com/cdridentifyingtools.shtml
two great ones are these
Protection ID (scans exe only)
Copy-Discovery 2000 (scan discs and exe) - needs MS framework 1.1 installed before installing this
I 'll give them a try tonite. thanks much....
Well, i kinda knew something would end up not working for me and sure enough....alcohol just gives me dozens upon dozens of read errors when i try and write a image. I'm sure i must be doing something wrong tho. The disc is in new condition so it's not that. i checked it with copy discover 2000 and it showed "safedisc 3.15.001". So i tried it using "safedisc" from the drop down menu that says data type i believe. but there are 3 or 4 incidences of safe disc there and none say safedisc 3.15.001. only safedisc with no numbers after it or a few more with numbers that don't match the ones in the version that copy discover 2000 found. so i just used safedisc. tons of read errors. I also tried checking the box that makes it read subchannel data which then automatically sets the datatype to "custom". Still tons of errors. i also tried selecting mds and then again with iso on the second page and again tons of read errors. In fact, i doubt theres anything i could do to avoid this as far as settings in the image making wizard go, but maybe in options?
My system is a core2duo 6400 with 2 gigs of ram on a gigabyte board with an nvidia 8800 video card and XP service pack 2. My one optical drive is a sony DVD/CD burner DW Q30A SCSI.
