Hey Guys as we know the microsoft have released the Windows Vista Ultimate after Vista Enterprise(Enterprise: I call it the Beta version) .Every one recommend the "Vista Ultimate edition" for gaming and media Entertainment.
Windows Vista Ultimate is the most comprehensive edition of Windows Vista. It is the first operating system that combines all of the advanced infrastructure features of a business-focused operating system, all of the management and efficiency features of a mobility-focused operating system, and all of the digital entertainment features of a consumer-focused operating system. For the person who wants one operating system that is great for working from home, working on the road, and for entertainment, Windows Vista Ultimate is the operating system that lets you have it all.
Windows Media Center in Windows Vista:-
Enjoy all your favorite digital entertainment—including live and recorded TV, movies, music, and pictures—in one place with the easy-to-use Windows Media Center menu system and remote control. Windows Media Center in Windows Vista includes enhancements for expanded support of digital and high-definition cable TV, an improved menu system, and the ability to create a consumer-electronics-quality living-room experience, as well as new options for multi-room access to your entertainment through Media Center Extenders, including Xbox 360.
But the questions are....
1.. Whats the best AGP card for this edition? except nVidia 8800 series.
2.. Does the DX9 games run on Vista Ultimate (DX10)?
3.. Is this Edition is really THE BEST for gaming and media entertainment.
4.. whether My nVidia GeForce 7600GS OC 512MB DDR2 CARD Will be supported by Vista Ultimate?
Thanks

1.. No AGP - Get PCI-Express for Vista ... There is no DX10 AGP Card.
2.. Most, yes, You will have to install DX9 for Vista via MS Site
3.. Depends, as far as Vista, yes, I still prefer XP unless you want DX10
4.. Yes that card is suported.

That is a given for any OS made by Windows (or any OS made period) most will get a service pack at some point in time.
Question to ask is "when", and SP1 for Vista is scheduled for the second half of this year. (Nov/Dec) possibly.

Ok So let me install the "Vista Ultimate".
then let me see if i have some problems in installing DX9.
But do u think DX10 will allow DX9 to install on it...?
According to the rules a newer version does not allow the older version to install on it......

DX9 support is already built into Vista. The problem is the version on Vista is not the most current version of DX9.
DX 9.0 L will be available, but will only run on Vista machines as it will provide backward compatibility for DX9 based games.
However, I would not recommend getting Vista for gaming at least for now.
At the VERY least, build a machine that is Vista Ready (dual core, 2GB Mem, SLI Ready, etc..) but, install XP on it and enjoy XP until there is REAL need for you to migrate to Vista, this way you will save yourself the pain of getting something to work that "may not" work, but at the same time your ready to install Vista should you need it for DX10 games.
You can also install XP/Vista as Dual Boot and boot to whichever OS you may need. I would recommend if you go this route to make sure and either get 2 seperate hdds (1 for Vista and 1 for XP) or make sure to get at least a 100GB HDD for Vista/XP split partition. Dedicate 40GB for XP and the rest to Vista. (this is speaking on minimum as Vista takes much larger space than XP)
However, at this time there is absolutely NO reason to install or even need Vista. Unless you just want to play Lost Planet. Otherwise, gaming is behind in putting out much that will beneifit from Vista. XP still works fine for almost all games (and there is even a DX9 version of the core files for Lost Planet)

There is no DX10 for XP.
There was someone trying to port DX 10 to XP, but it will not work and cannot work unless you can talk MS into giving you the source code for both Vista and XP in order to make a working port. Otherwise, DX10 will never be ported to XP. (and we all know MS is not going to give anyone the source code for either OS)

You Are 100% right Crypton But... I have spend my money on Vista Ultimate (250$) and Vista Enterprise (900$ few months ago). I m using Vista Enterprise on my Laptop... But as Vista Ultimate is out now... and i have bought it, thats y i want to run Vista on my Home and gaming system... I m looking forward to upgrade my PC before installing it, With intel core 2 duo 2.66 and 3 GB DDR2 RAM.... Thats y i m looking forward to see Vista on my system.... Using 2 OS at the same time is a good idea.. as i done it before with XP and 98... I have enough Hard Drive (250GB) but single... But i think it will make my system slow....
The basic reasons of use Vista is ,
1. I m really impressed with its graphics and Look.
2. I have bought Vista Ultimate in DVD,
3. With intel core 2 duo, i think we must use Vista to enjoy the full utilization of processor :-)
I m using DX9c in XP, What do u think, whether DX9L in Vista will be update able with DX9c ...? (As it look like that DX9.0L is updated version of DX9c...)
and skywalker06 there is no DX10 for XP, MS really cant take a risk to give Any source code to any Company.....

It wont make your system slow. You can only boot to 1 OS at a time and other than taking up 4-5GB of space for XP, it wont slow anything down.
