My daughter has a laptop 40G hard drive is there any way she can just use a CD to play her games without putting the game on her hard drive. Thanks

don't believe so, most games are packed within an installer such as installshield, ect.. In order to get to the game files the game has to be unpacked (installed).
You can look on the CD and see files such as data.cab data1.cab data2.cab (just 1 installer type example)
These files are basically zip files with the difference being they were stripped of their signature to disallow normal programs such as winzip from opening them. (in most cases, though few do open with winzip)
Anyways, just a brief explanation, hope i helped.

Yeah exactly what Crypton said, if you ran the game from the CD it would run extremely slow, and would most likely be "spluttering" as most CD drives are only 50x etc. they would run poorly as the CD drive speed is just not fast enough to read the data quickly.

no, that is not the answer, if you read his daughter is using a laptop, if you know anything about laptops they unlike computers are not outdated in a few months. In fact they also retain their resell value almost 80% of their retail value can be achieved after they have been around 5-6 years, I know because I happen to own a computer store and sell them all the time.
Of course a new one never hurts, however, it can be upgraded, it obviously suites his/her needs besides the space it provides. A new hard drive would be a better answer, but again it depends on what the primary role of that laptop is. If it is for school mainly, then I would just leave it how it is and only install 1 or 2 games that you really enjoy.

for laptop, depending on brand, speed ect.. anywhere from $60 and up retail. Alot cheaper than a whole new laptop...
But if you have someone you know who has a wholesalers or manufactuers license then of course maybe cheaper :)

yikes, yeah screens are expensive, I try to talk customers into purchasing a new laptop or used one that is under $1,000 usd when they bring one in that is damaged simply because replacement of a screen on a laptop is expensive.
And as far as a new computer for her, never said he couldn't that would be his choice, but normally a laptop serves some sort of purpose, school, work, ect.., Something portable makes more sense than trying to lug around a computer and monitor.
Maybe shes on the road alot? Maybe she goes to college in another state? I don't know, ask him heh
