Download the full update patch here:
Download Patch v.1.4 Here (http://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/patches/BF2/1.4/BF2_Patch_1.4.exe)
That will update your game to v.1.4
Then grab the NODVD Fix for 1.4 here:
Download 1.4 NODVD Fix Here (http://www.gameburnworld.com/dl/dl.php?file=Battlefield2v1.4NoDVDFixedexeEng.rar)
I wold not mess around with 1.00, alot of fixes have been made to the game to solve many issues.

Yes, the files must be moved where the game is installed, replace the original files with the ones provided in the rar.
Quickest way is to right click the game shortcut, choose properties, then click "Find Target" that will take you right where the exe is for the game. Then simply extract the files from the rar, then cut/copy paste them into the location to replace the old files. Some cases there may be other files such as a dll, ect.., in which you will need to browse to the correct game folder to replace such files.
