okie dokie, again, that is a little vague. It should have an option that says more info, You can click it and create a appcompatibility text file. Just do not close the popup windows until you have copied the text file which will be located in windows temp

You will want to first clear your temp files before running the game as it may already be full of other stuff which will make finding the file difficult.

goto Start > Run

Type in %temp%
PRESS ENTER

A folder opens will a ton of files, select all and press DEL/DELETE on your Keyboard, when asked, choose yes. Dont worry these are temp files and will not hurt anything, in fact ,it is a good idea to keep temp files cleared as it can help increase performance on your system.

Anyhow, after than, run the game when it gives you the error, see if you have more info (little blue link on the error box) click it.

It should create a text file in your temp files folder, copy it and paste on desktop, then close the error window. (if you close error window before copying the file, the file is automatically deleted...)

This file might tell us what is going on, such as a conflict. No garantee, but it is better than nothing and surely more info that what you posted.

And please, dont use such large big bold text, otherwise, I will just lock this thread and ignore it.

Np,

Looks to be an issue with Codecs., Namely, Bink. It is possible the bink dll file is screwed up, or you may need to update it.

You can try a few things., First off, I would recommend uninstalling any Third Party Codecs you have installed, such as FDDShow, Divx, ect..

Check the attached file and try it, it will reset your Direct Show Filters to the default setup when windows is first installed. Make sure to read the readme file.

You can alternatively try installing Bink (Radtools),

what other programs would classify as a "third party codec" ?

Anything and Everything that does not get installed when you install Vanilla XP is considered a third party program.

By Vanilla I mean Plain Jane, just XP itself, no photoshop, no Winamp, ect.. ect.. But Codecs are usually the main cause of conflicts. And I doubt Winamp would cause problems however..

Nero is known to cause problems becuase it installs their own CD Burning filters. So you may want to try uninstalling Nero if you have it installed or.. If you do have Nero, you can try this instead of uninstalling it.

Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\
You will see a folder named DSFilter, rename the folder to something else such as DSFilter_BAH

then reboot your PC and try the game again, if it works, then Nero was the cause.

Lastly, you will want to make sure no other programs are running during bootup such as tray icons (running background applications) Goto Start Menu > Run and type in MSConfig then press Enter

Goto the Services Tab, check the checkbox called "Hide all Microsoft Services" then the left over junk, uncheck them all.

Next goto the Startup Tab. Uncheck all of them, in most cases you do not need anything Starting Up for it to run as intended. The only exceptions would be certain ones such as License Management for programs made by companies such as Adobe, AutoDesk, ect.. but they are safe to disable from startup as you are testing, you can enable them again later. One you may want to leave turned on would be items relating to your Video Card, such as nVidia Services and ATI. Though, alot of times some of them even are not needed, it is better to leave them on unless you know what you are doing.

Finally, click Apply and Close, it will ask you to reboot, go ahead and click Restart then after the reboot, try the game again.
