I have this game and i want to download the latest patch for it but i was wondering instead of downloading a fixed exe (there is none) for the patch can i use alcohol 120 or some other program to use an image instead and still play with the latest patch?

In most cases yes, depends on the game, more info would be good.
You can make the image of your origional CD/DVD using Alcohol 120%, however, settings and such will depend on the protection of the game (whatever game it happens to be)
I would recommend using Daemon-Tools 4 for mounting and playing the image. Sometimes it will take a few if not more tries of making an image to get one that works.

well the name of the game is il2 sturmovik forgotten battles and the last patch that came out last yr, also its being protected by safedisc 2.8, so would i have to get through the security first or jus use alcohol and daemon tools

The old "NOCD" fix works for the current game version. Simply replace the required files with the one from chosen fix archive and not worry about having the CD in the drive to play at all. However, if you still want to emulate the protection on Daemon-Tools, you should read how to "Fast-Dump" the image in order to make a working copy of SafeDisc 2 (and SD 1) protected games. http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/daemonhelp.php?helppage=15#fastdump
Update the game by getting the official patches from UBISOFT Support site.
Then try the fixes below. (Attached)
