Okay, since too many threads are being started asking things that have been answered times and times again in guides and/or posts, I'm putting this guide up, so we can avoid confusions and multiple topics about the same thing.
If after reading this guide, you still have a problem, REPLY to this topic, stating clearly what your problem is.
Any threads started after this guide regarding a problem with getting Sims 2 to play will be closed.
Note that any info in this thread has been posted a thousand times again, and I'm not trying in any way to steal others' solutions, or make myself famous. I'm just trying to help.
Small note: Many thanks go to Zedy for providing answers to a lot of people's problems in this thread. I hope he understands that the only reason I deleted his posts is that I'm trying to keep all the answers in one post, and not that I'm trying to take any credit from him.
Another note: This guide has been updated for use with Sims 2 University too.
So, to the guide/FAQ/whatever you want to call it now.
Q: The installer stops at the end of first CD (about 22%) and asks me if I want to play the game. What is wrong?
A: It is something that happens completely randomly to some people. Just reboot your computer and try instaling the game again (uninstall first if necessary.)
Q: The game asks for the correct CD / does not start at all / says that it has found emulation software and cannot start.
A: This is the most common problem that people have with Sims 2, so the following step-by-step guide should clear any questions you have. Make sure you follow it correctly.
--
1. First of all, install the game. Either from the CDs or the images on your PC, install the game and DirectX 9c, as well as the latest drivers for your graphics card, and restart if necessary. DO NOT, and I say DO NOT install any crack or mess with ANY file inside the game's folder.
STOP AND READ HERE! Note that incompatibilities appear between many games and CloneCD. If you are willing to remove CloneCD, go directly to step 2b. If not, go to step 2a.
2a. Read CAREFULLY the instructions kindly provided by another user in this (http://www.gamefileforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=661&postcount=62) post and skip to step 4.
2b. Make sure you DO NOT have Clone CD installed AFTER the game is installed. If you still have it on your computer, go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and select Clone CD, then click Uninstall and follow the on-screen instructions. Go to Step 3.
3. To ensure Clone CD is no longer installed and no leftovers are inside your system's registry (a.k.a. The Lifetime Memories of Windows), download this (http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-download/archives/reg-cleaner4.3.htm) little utility that will help you remove all leftovers from your computer. Just download from the above link, install it, search for it in your computer through Windows Explorer (normally installed in C:\Program Files\Regcleaner) and start it. Search through the list for any entry with both words "Clone CD" in it and select it for deletion.
4. Now download:
Sims 2 Mini Image (http://www.gameburnworld.com/dl/dl.php?file=Sims2v1.0MiniBackupImageEng.zip)
or
Sims 2 University Mini Image (http://www.gameburnworld.com/dl/dl.php?file=TheSims2UniversityMiniBackupImageEng.rar)
Extract all its contents in an easy-to-remember folder such as C:\Sims2MiniImage.
5. Make sure that Alcohol or any other virtual drive program that may be installed in your PC has got NO virtual drives currently enabled. Search the respective program's documentation in order to find how you can disable ALL virtual drives it has created.
6. Download the latest Daemon Tools here:
http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/download.php
7. Install Daemon Tools and restart your computer.
8. When your computer starts again, a new red or green icon with a thunder should appear on the bottom-right corner of your screen, the tray-bar. Click on it and go to Device 0.
9. Browse through your computer for the files you downloaded and extracted in Step 4 and select the SIMS21_MINI.MDS (for the original Sims 2) or the BLH-TS2U1.mds (for the Sims 2 University) file.
10. Wait 20 seconds, and then right click on the icon again and go to Emulation and then click on ALL OPTIONS ON.
11. Double-click on The Sims 2 shortcut on your desktop and the game should work fine.
P.S. It has worked for some that after running the game once, installing CloneCD again wouldn't make the game stop working. Tell us if it works for you.
--
Q: The game still asks for the correct CD. I'm sure I followed all the steps correctly. What should I do?
A: It seems that you had already tried a cracked exe of the game and didn't manage to get it to play. You'll have to replace the cracked sims2.exe (for the original Sims2) or sims2ep1.exe (for Sims 2 University) with the original one, found in your 4th cd of the original game or the 2nd cd of the University expansion, compressed in the file "compressed.zip" or in the root folder of the cd. Find it and extract/copy it to the TSBin subfolder in the folder the game was installed. Make sure you click Yes on the message asking if you want to replace the already existing file.
Q: I cannot save. The game crashes when the Saving Lot dialog box appears.
A: At first glance, I'd say you are still using the cracked exe. Make sure you follow the guide correctly, and replace the cracked exe you may have downloaded with the original one. If you are sure you have followed the guide correctly, then try disabling any anti-virus software you may have installed, and if that does not work either, try updating your graphics card drivers, a solution which has been reported to work.
If you have a NVidia Graphics Card, go to: http://www.nvidia.com
If you have an ATI Graphics Card, go to: http://www.ati.com
If you don't know what graphics card you have installed, click on Start, then on Run, and enter "dxdiag". After it has finished loading, click on the Display tab (if it has two, on the first one) and on the top-left corner it should report what's the model as well as the manufacturer.
Q: The game freezes all the time inside the game. For a while it is playable, but then it freezes again.
A: Read the solution for the Save problem, just above. In addition, try updating your audio drivers.
To do that, first go to Start > Run, then enter "dxdiag". When the program has finished loading, go to the Sound tab (if there are two, then the first one) and on the top left corner you should be able to see the model of your sound card. Note it down and then go to Google, and try a search, adding the word "drivers" to your search.
Q: The Sims 2 University expansion loads fine, but when I try to enter a house, the game seems to load, but never ends loading.
A: This is due to some hack you have installed, that may have worked fine with the original Sims 2, but is not compatible with the University expansion. Check your Sims 2 Downloads folder with Sims 2 Pack Scanner (search for this utility in Google (http://www.google.com)) and uninstall any hacks you don't really need. Note that if these hacks are already used in any of your houses, that house will remain inaccessible after uninstall, so you'll have to evict the family.
Q: Trying to install the nude patch I found on the net I get an error about the msvbvm60.dll file. What is wrong?
A: First of all, I want to warn you that some of the nude patches out there install cracked exes during the installation, so if the game does not start or problems occur after installing the patch, make sure you follow the guide's instructions on replacing the cracked exe with the original one. About the msvbvm60.dll file, it is a Visual Basic library the patch needs in order to be installed. It can be downloaded here (http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/a/d/5ad868a0-8ecd-4bb0-a882-fe53eb7ef348/VB6.0-KB290887-X86.exe).
Q: I heard that there is a crack that works fully and is still posted on various sites. Does it really work?
A: Actually, there is ONE crack that does work fully with the original Sims 2 and has been verified to. It is the Money's No-DVD release, which works if you have the International CD or DVD version of the game. This crack can be downloaded here (http://www.gameburnworld.com/dl/dl.php?file=Sims2v1.0FixedexeDVDEng.rar).
It is NOT guaranteed to work, the only method that is is the step-by-step guide above.
As for the University expansion, I won't bother with any no-cd cracks, until I see one that really works.
Q: I've followed the guide correctly, but I'm still getting an error about my system not having a DirectX 9c compliant card, although I have downloaded DirectX 9c and installed it. What is the problem?
A: Electronic Arts Technical Support has given an answer to this problem. You can view the solution here (http://eatech.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/eatech.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=15779&p_created=1095272769&p_sid=1CXAiDsh&p_lva=15806&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NDYmcF9wcm9kcz00NzQmcF9jYXRzPTczOC%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EwwJnBfcHY9MS40NzQ7Mi51MCZwX3NlYXJjaF90eXBlPXNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3NjZl9wbGF0Zm9ybT0xODImcF9wYWdl%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EPTE*&p_li=&p_topview=1).
If you still have a problem, try disabling any refresh rate overriding software (such as Refresh Force) before trying to run The Sims 2.
Q: I can start the game correctly, and build mode as well as saving works, but I'm having in-game problems. What shall I do?
A: Remember that this thread is not the place to ask about technincal problems. You should go to EA's Technical Support homepage (http://eatech.custhelp.com) and check if a solution to your problem exists. If you cannot find a solution, using the "Ask a question" feature will get one of the kind EA Tech people to answer to your problem within 48 hours.
Note for Sims 2 University users: Although the original Sims 2 had only the saving and building problems as issues when having used a no-cd crack, this first expansion lists no less than 30 issues that you will have if using a no-cd crack! So remember that the only guaranteed and sure way to play without a CD or DVD, and not have any of these problems, is following the step-by-step guide above.
That about sums it up. For any questions or problems you still have, remember, REPLY to this topic, stating clearly your problem.
Any new solutions will be added to this guide for your convenience.
Enjoy.

Have you even read the guide? Are you sure you have the international version? Maybe you should just follow the step-by-step guide to get your game to play.

I downloaded the fixed exe, and the game will play through the intro, but as soon as it ends, it closes. My roommate downloaded the same one and it works perfectly on her computer. We both run Windows XP... Any ideas?

Try Ctrl + Alt + Del when at desktop, and see what programs are running, there may be a conflict between the Sims 2 and some program installed, sometimes its as simple as disabling Norton Antivirus, or ending one of the tasks running in the background.

Hello from Nantes (Fr).
"The lucky ones talk to the unlucky others...."
I applied exactly the advices from DarkLeftos' initial post.
2 differences :
-I run french versions.
-I planned to enable playing for non-admins (XP pro).
This is a hit! Thank you, DarkLeftos, for collecting and grouping all those contributions.
Thank you to all contributors, starting with Zedy.
To enable playing for non-admins, I installed the EA fix (http://thesims2.ea.com/update/) just after the game was installed.
Hum, something else, I have to confess that I had no emulator installed before!
Arrivederci tutti

Hi all.
I am having a problem not yet mentioned ( I think ).
I made a copy of the first disc and to test it I installed the game using it.
All was fine.
The kids came to use it but they got a windows error report.
The one that says do you want to send error report.
Using the original disc is fine, so the game installed ok.
Any clues?
I am thinking of becoming a pirate game user.
These protection systems cause legit users more grief than it's worth.

@ Spooked:
Thinking of becoming a pirate game user? Nope, just don't do that. Protections are nothing to make worth stealing.
Using the step-by-step guide, you should get the game to run without any cd, just follow it and you'll be okay.

Hi DL.
One thing I can't find with the step by step.
In part three you say to download a little util to get rid of any leftovers of clonecd.
I can't see the link I am meant to click.
Am I missing it or is it realy not there?
Oh yeah, n how do you know if you have the international version?
Cheers.
Hi,
Ok i followed your guide but one problem i have is not mentioned anywhere.
When the game loads, it locks up at what seesm to be the intro. I've tried every other method such as using fixed exe's, your guide, other image fixes, and the problem still remains.
what can I do?

Hi,
Whenever I try installing the game I get the problem previously mentioned above: It stops at cd1 at about 22 percent. I have tried uninstalling and restarting my computer but the same thing always happens and I can't seem to get around it...
Does anyone have any solution for this? If so, please e-mail me directly.

Well Dark Leftos, I said I was thinking of becoming a pirate game user.
Now I am convinced.
The hassle these guys are causing legit users with thie so called copy protection has finally got on my pip.
I now have hassle with multiplayer in Far Cry. It is a bought copy but now it says my key is in use?? That is not my problem it is theirs.
You say that nothing makes it worth stealing the game.
Do you not think that when they take my money and then make the product unusable that that is also a type of theft?? Or at least false advertising??
No, i'm sorry but these people have shot themselves in the foot.
I refuse to pay for something that doesn't work.
Sorry to rant off the Sims subject but it's got beyond a joke.
Oh yeah, same problem with COD. Time to take something back.

That would be your choice, however I would not go around posting about it, you will just get yourself banned and nobody will provide you any type of support if you are known to be using pirate versions of anything.
As far as your serial number being in use, I recommend contacting their support line, they can resolve it and issue you another key if you can provide proof of purchase.
http://support.ubi.com/International/
Their is a listing of support links, should help you locate where you need to go. I have delt with UBI on a few occassions when it came to my serial numbers or other various issues and providing proof of purchase I was taken care of without question. Just note your old key will become blacklisted and will no longer be usable to install if they were to release a new patch.
If your key has been in fact "stolen" as you claim it is in use so obviously someone is using it, then I would recommend scanning your system with a Virus Scanner and other tools such as HiJackThis and Spybot, it is possible to have a "Keylogger" installed on your system or other types of trojan that can take your key and send it to someone. Anyways.. sorry you have probs, best of luck.

@ Crypt (and Spooked):
Quite well said, looking at Symantec's Latest Viruses page, some of the new viruses have the fashion of doing nothing but stealing game key codes! For christ's sake. But truth is, the support team of each company WILL and HAVE TO help you if you have proof of purchase.
I know about the trouble with multiplayer games and having your key used, and I know that it is quite a hastle.
However, I'd like to tell you one more thing. Most copied games, will NOT play on-line. That's because you have NO chance of getting a legit code this way, and new releases have serials that do not work (Deviance's latest releases have serials that end with 0DEV, so there is no way you'll play on-line with that.)
Companies surely have made it bad for ourselves. But good games, mean good developers behind that company, and if not the company as a whole, the developers deserve every last piece of coin.
However, it is your decision to make Spooked. You don't get a warning from me, but please, stick to the rules, and let us keep this forum clean.
And people, let us not get off topic here please?

This is not actually a game hint thread, it's a thread for people having problems getting the game to start. Ask EA or search the official forums of Sims 2.

I would just mail them m8, mail is free, might take a bit longer but it would still be sorted. Best thing would be to goto the FAQ section and click on "Ask a question" and find out what proof they would need for the game in order to have a new key issued as well as where to send the proof. They might be a able to solve it via email or snail mail without having to pay. Not sure what else to tell you, but email would be best if they are charging for phone support.

Something might went wrong with Daemon, it's nothing to worry about. You know at least what to do when it gives you that error message now, so everything for the best. If the game still doesn't play, try re-downloading the mini-image.

Q: I heard that there is a crack that works fully and is still posted on various sites. Does it really work?
A: Actually, there is ONE crack that does work fully and has been verified to. It is the Money's No-DVD release, which works if you have the International CD or DVD version of the game. This crack can be downloaded here (http://www.gameburnworld.com/dl/dl.php?file=Sims2v1.0FixedexeDVDEng.rar).
Yeah, but guess what, you don't tell people that on the page for sims 2 cracks. Observe:
"-*This one definitely works, build mode now works, and so does saving. This also may work for the CD version of the game, if you have any problems, then please post them here on the forums."
Nothing whatsoever is said about it only working with the international version, and it definitely does NOT work with the US verson.

I downloaded Monday's THE SIMS 2 v1.0 [ENGLISH] *DVD RELEASE* FIXED EXE (12.7MB) crack because it said that this file worked. Also on your first post you say that this release does in fact work. It says that it may work with the CD version of the game (which I have). But when I replace the EXE I get a message saying please insert the proper DVD. I have the international version (it asked me which language when I installed it).
Also in the .nfo file it says: "For those of you who already downloaded our CD-ROM version we have included the cracked exe in a separate archive with this release." I do not know what this means. Is there a NO-CD crack released with this or something? The file contains only the cracked EXE and the .nfo file.
Also about your steps in the beginning to crack it..... I have no idea what a Virtual Drive is or how to Mount a Mini Image... :(
Thanks for any help you can offer :D
EDIT: Ive followed your instructions with Daemon Tools and mounted SIMS2_1_RIP.MDS. After turning on all instructions the lightning bolt goes green. I click the shortcut for Sims 2 and the Sims 2 logo comes up. However after about 30 seconds it says "CD/DVD emulation has been detected. Please disable all CD/DVD emulation software and re-start the game". Any ideas what to do about this?
EDIT EDIT: OK, so apparently we had Clone CD stuff left on the computer which I removed. I uninstalled S2 and reinstalled it and applied the mini-image. I was just in it and it worked fine, I coudl actually save and build my house :D Thanks a ton for helping me out, even tho you havent replied and I figured it out with ur initial help :D Thanks again.

Sorry for that, you are completely right. We shall correct the comment in the Sims 2 page as soon as possible.
I appreciate that. Its only a small error, but I can say from experience, it can cause some big frustration.
Hello. I was in Norway and was playing this game while visiting my cousin. Now obviously I don't have the cd's anymore. So I'm on Windows XP professional. And I downloaded daemon tools and pressed install and it all seemed to be going well so I left the room for a minute and came back to a serious error, blue screen style. I didnt understand all the info, at the bottom it said Beginning dump of physical memory. Dump of physical memory complete. And thats all I copped. So I restarted my comp and it looked as if daemon tools was installed cuz there was a shortcut on my desktop but it didnt work so I deleted the files (it wasnt in add/remove programs) and tried to install it again except this time as its being installed, it halts when its almost finished and says "Some driver has invalid name or conflicts with other file or service in system. Please choose other driver names or make sure you have rebooted after removal of software using same names." It doesn't goto the blue screen again like it did the first time but I have rebooted, I don't know what its talking about and I didn't see if it completely installed the first time because i wasnt in the room. Any ideas?

Something caused a problem while the Daemon's Virtual Drive was being installed. I don't know how this can be fixed actually, so you'll have to e-mail the Daemon Tool's team or post in their forum.

I don't really have anything to add, but I do want to ask that if you find a solution to the problem you just described, that you post it here, as I had the exact same problem. I think game studios need to realize that forcing use of the cd is not a good way to go on copy protection. I have a fully valid copy of the game, but I'd rather not wear out my brand new dvd-rw drive just playing a game.
hey thanks for directing to me to that page. i did find out what it meant, they had the error as a sticky so its obviously a common thing, and i was in regedit trying to delete the drivers it created but now im having an error, it wont delete one of the drivers and i cant log in to ask them for help because they dont accept hotmail email addresses, they ask for a real (i guess they mean paid for) email address, not the most convenient customer service if ya ask me but can anyone help?

The real e-mail address they ask for is the one that your Intenet Provider gave you. I guess most internet providers give a free e-mail address after registration.
Note that even the Daemon Tools forums do not detect some free accounts, so you can try making one in http://www.walla.com/ and using that.

I seem to be having the "bad exe" issue, but without changing the .exe...
I have installed the game, ensured that no vitrual drives of any type are enabled, checked for remnants of CloneCD, loaded the .mds file into D-Tools, enabled all emulation options, amd started the game from the Sims 2 desktop icon - and I get a "Please inset the correct CD..." error.
I have previously (months ago) tried replacing the .exe, with the known crappy results, and ended up completely uninstalling that version, even burned the folder and RegCleaned...
Any ideas or suggestions?
I have read the steps and done according to them.
The game starts fine but there are no neighbourhoods to
choose from exept for the custom neighbourhood.
any ideas.....

@envisionator:
Tried running the game from your original CDs? If that happens with them as well, contact EA's Tech Support. Else, I am completely out of ideas.
@napz:
Try uninstall the game completely, deleting all game and save folders, then installing again.
i tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling it, now the neighbourhoods work, but now there is another prob. In the game when i click on something a box appears right, and when i press either yes or no the box does'nt go away. And if I click on something else like to move sims to a house another box appeares on top of the other box. Also when I try and move my sims to a house and move the mouse with it holding the sims, it leaves behind a trail.
Do u know y this might be? I'll try reinstalling the game.
It might be something wrong with the graphics card huh?
I got a radeon9200 with 128mb.

Are you loading CD4 from an image or from the real CD ? If you are loading from the real CD, and have used any fixes previously, you may need to try loading CD from an image. (or vise versa if you used an image file)
also make sure you have not edited/renamed the title of the CD4 it should be Sims2_4
If you are using a fixed exe, you will need to put the origional back before installing, if you do not have the origional, you will need to reinstall from scratch and do not apply any fixed exe until you have gotten university updated/patched.
Also, if you are loading from an image and are using Alcohol 120%, try Daemon-Tools instead.

For all your MiniDisc needs, go here for a tutorial
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=118875
Alternatively you can try MIR found here (Easier)
http://www.gameburnworld.com/cdprotectionutilities.htm
Daemon-Tools you just right click the icon of Daemon in the system try and goto Virtual CD/DVD-ROM Device x: No Media > Mount Image
If you create MIR minidiscs you will need to choose "All Files" in daemon when you go to mount the image then find the game.mir (where game is the name of your image)

Hi there to all!
Well, I was worry about that my The Sims 2 was not allowing me to build/remove walls from my houses, and how I was using a NOCD patch I decided do search the internet to find some info about this. So, I found this forum explaining the solution (I've tried it e works perfectly like said in the first message of the thread). But I was not conformed that I must remove my CloneCD every time to play my games with this problem ("Rome: Total War" have a similar problem), so I decided to do something about this and here is the solution: I have coded some lines in a .BAT file that removes all traces of CloneCD in the Windows registry before you play the game and restore these configs after the game is finished, allowing you to play The Sims 2 using the method explained here in the first post without having to unistall CloneCD from your system.
There are some observations to do about this file and how to use it:
1 - This is a file that have some Windows commands, so, your antivirus software could imagine that it is a virus or malicious code. So, if you have problems to open it try turning off your antivirus before you copy or execute the file;
2 - You MUST copy the file to the same place where the "Sims2.exe" file is in (TSBin folder). After copying the file you can create a shortcut of it on your desktop to run the game. From now on, you NEED to run this script insted of the old The Sims 2 shortcut created on your desktop or in the Programs folder;
3 - You MUST follow the steps 1 and 4-10 in the first post of this thread to work. REMEMBER: you DO NOT NEED do remove CloneCD anymore from your system to play the game;
4 - When you launch the script, a command line window come up and still running until the game is closed by the user. So, DO NOT CLOSE THAT COMMAND LINE WINDOW while running the game, or your CloneCD settings could be erased permanently from the registry. That window will self close when you finish playing the game;
5 - This only works if you use CloneCD version 4.3.1.6 or above, because the older versions are from another company and have different configs in the registry. So, if you want to use this script you must install the latest versions of CloneCD (the newest is 5.2.0.2);
6 - I only tested it in Windows XP system, but I think that you can use it in any other Windows system also.
Now, download, place it in the right place and run the file and see if it works for you ;)
And that's all folks!!! :D
P.S.: there's a new and more enhanced version of this file in THIS (http://www.gamefileforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=811&postcount=89) post.

The game works at my dad's computer, which is... It belongs to a museum. The game works down there, but since the computer is so slow I can't play it there either.. I got the sims to work once, but now it wont.
I have the orginal game, the real CD's, but when I try to install the game with those the installation stops at 19% and a message comes up telling me that something is wrong.
When I use the burned CD's it installs, but still it wont work. >_< Sorry for my bad english, I'm norwegian! :)

The real CD's should install fine, that is odd, have you got 2 CD/DVD drives? Try installing it from the other drive.

AS Duff mentioned, if you have another drive, try it, if not, try making an image of the CD's using Alcohol or other CD Copy program and mount the images with Daemon-Tools or Alcohol 120% and install from images, then see if you get the same result.
Also, check to make sure you are using the latest drivers for your video card and sound. If you have any codecs installed such as DivX, uninstall them and reboot then try to reinstall the game again, just to see if something such as software/codecs are conflicting.
If you do have codecs and still recieve this problem after removing them, there is a program called BigFix (not to be confused with the BigFix for updating windows updates and fixes) It is another BigFix which is used to repair codecs that have become unusable.
BigFix can be found here:

I've never used alcohol before, and I don't have it installed now.. Is there a place to download it for free or..?
Crypton
30-04-2005, 09:14 AM
yep, you can get a trial version from: (Trial)
http://www.alcohol-soft.com/
And Daemon-Tools can be found at: (Free)
http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/index.php
Note that Daemon-Tools is not a burning program.. It can only be used to mount the images, it creates a "Virtual CD/DVD Drive" But is a bit better at "tricking" most protections on games.
So I would recommend grabbing both Alcohol 120% and Daemon-Tools..
Annieee
30-04-2005, 09:35 AM
I have deamon tools, and I'm currently trying that thing with alcohol.. Error after error comes up. Wont work. Disc read error. All the time. At both of the CD's.
And since I got the game to work some months ago I do have the codecs and stuff. There's something wrong here, and it's pissing me off to the point of throwing the *** **** CD's out the window.
Isn't there a place I can download already-done images? And if there is, anyone who wants to make a complete guide of what to do after getting one?
Crypton
30-04-2005, 09:59 AM
Disc read errors are part of the protection, it is normal, when making the image, select the type of protection the game uses. In this case, select the option for SafeDisc 3.
You will see read errors on Safedisc, it is part of the protection scheme, they write weak and bad sectors to the cd, only the copy protection uses this to distiguish it as a bad copy because a burner cannot write the errors, so it makes duplicating it nearly impossible (but not impossible)
And please, do not use my name in vain (joking aside) just please watch the language.
Isn't there a place I can download already-done images? And if there is, anyone who wants to make a complete guide of what to do after getting one?
Im sure there probably is, but we do not support warez/pirating here, so please do not ask as it would only get you banned.
Annieee
30-04-2005, 10:03 AM
But the "installation" would go to 14% and down to 1% up to 14% and down to 1% again all the time. Never seemed to get any further... Is that normal too?
Should I use the orginal CD's or the copied ones? And how do I do it to change the cd? :|
Annieee
30-04-2005, 10:04 AM
And oh, I see that your a black and white player! How cool! I wish I could find my black and white.. I miss it so much. Haven't played it in like a year. The CD is un-usable and I can't find the f**** paper with the serial key on >_<

I would try the images using Daemon-Tools, or Alcohol (try them both)
Make sure if you are using Daemon-Tools to turn all Emulation Options on, and switching CD's you just right click Daemon, or open Alcohol and unmount the image, and mount the next cd image it is wanting, basically your "changing" cd's, but using images of the cd's.
Ya, I play a bit, have not played in a while so I fired it up, beat it and now starting on the Creature Isle expansion again lol. Can't wait for Black & White 2 :)

could be possible your CD/DVD drive is crapping out ? Maybe it is now having problems reading CD's or the CD (one of them or all) could have a scratch in it that is causing the laser to not read it properly ? And since that could be possible, it would effect making a image as well ..
Do you have another computer? Or another CD drive?
Is that the only file that is giving you problems ??
Annieee
30-04-2005, 11:17 AM
Nothing is wrong with the CD's, they don't have any scratches, and the CD drive works perfectly with any other CD's. There is another computer in the house, but it's old and slow as... Uhm yea.
Crypton
30-04-2005, 11:26 AM
if you are having problems reading a file on a cd then A: the cd is damaged., or B: the drive is crapping out and cannot read the data. C: See other possiblities.
And I have CD drives that are crappin out in some test machines, they read some cd's just fine and wont read others. So, does not rule out the drive could be bad..
But other possiblities, IDE cable could be bad/going bad, IDE controller on your board channel 1 or 2 secondary or master could be failing, driver conflicts, software conflicts, I could name more, even ram can cause some weird things to happen for simple things such as file copy and cd reading..
Heres something you can do to test the install files.
Load CD 1 in your drive (REAL CD) not the image file ...
Make a new folder on your desktop
Goto your CD Drive, and open "compressed.zip" file you should be able to open it with winzip or winrar.
Extract the files (extract all) to the new folder on your desktop, do you get any error, such as the error extracting sfx1.package

Well, I don't know exactly what is the couse of this problem, because it occured with me also. In another computer, the CD2 worked, but to me not. I have 2 CD/DVD drives on my computer, so this is not related to a drive problem or something like this. And I know many people that have the same problem, but with different files from the disc. Is it some copy protection from EA?
The solution to me was to copy the entire content of the cd in a PC that could read the disc without problems to a CD-RW disc and then copy it to my PC and burn into a new blank CD-R disc. So, it worked.
Mr.Damm
01-05-2005, 06:15 PM
Well, it's me again
If you already have used the file in this post (http://www.gamefileforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=661&postcount=62) in order to play the game without having to unistall CloneCd from your system, this new file could be more useful so.
Here is the changes:
- Now the script search for the "Sims2.exe" file in the folder that it is in. If the file was not found, the script quits giving an alert message;
- Now the script search for the miniDisc image files in the same folder of the "Sims2.exe" and mount the miniDisc automatically on Daemon Tools. So, the simple thing you have to do is play the game... ;-);
Here are some instructions. Read this before use this file:
1 - This script is an enhanced versoin of the original one on the mentioned post above. If you have any trouble using this, try to use that other;
2 - This script was coded in order to be used in USA and Brazilian Windows systems (I don't know if this works in systems in UK, i.e.), because the paths could point the Windows "Program Files" folder to another location. If this is your case, edit the file and follow the instructions to fix the path matching your system configuration. It's very easy to do;
3 - This script assumes that you have installed Daemon Tools in the default path indicated by the installer. This is something like this: <your drive>\<program files folder>\D-Tools. Generally, if your system is Windows XP or Windows 2000 and you have installed the Daemon Tools in default path, this script will work without problems for you. If you installed it in another folder, read the instruction 2;
4 - You MUST be with at least 1 virtual disc enabled with Daemon Tools before run the script (even if this virtual disc are using another image in the moment, because it will be unmounted automatically);
5 - You MUST be using the miniDisc posted in this thread (that contain the "Sims2_1_RIP.MDS" and "Sims2_1_RIP.MDF" files in. And these files MUST be in the same folder of this script;
Like the other script, this script copy the CloneCD settings from the registry to some files, erases them from the registry, unmount any other disc images on the virtual drive from D-Tools, mount the miniDisc in D-Tools and run the game. When you finish your gameplay, it unmount the miniDisc from D-Tools and restore all CloneCD settings again to the registry.
NOTE: if The Sims 2 present some delay to be executed, don't worry: wait a little and the game will play.
Easy...
Any problems? Mail to me, writing which is your system and paths to the D-Tools, Program Files folder and your OS.

Hi all.
My daughter has just purchased University Expansion.
We have Sims 2 running from the Daemon Tools mini image.
Before we break the seal on the pack she would like to know if there are any issues with installing University while running the game this way.
Can it just be installed straight away or do we need to uninstall and re-install off the original disks?
If this has to be done can you still run the game without the cd in the drive ie by using another mini image?
A step by step guide would be appreciated.
Sorry if there is already one written, I have looked but can't see it.

Hi Crypton.
Thanks for that, all went just dandy.
Next question is, I have downloaded the Uni mini file.
To mount it, do I need to do anything special like delete the original mini file, or do I just mount it and choose which file I need??
Thanks.
Just had a go, it seems you just mount the next image on a new drive and leave them both going.
All seems to be o.k. at the mo.
If this isn't right please let me know.

yep, if its working then your good to go, if the old mini image is not working I would remove them, and make sure to keep a copy of the one that is working for you.

Hello all,
I've been running off the mini image and it works like a charm. Wondering about updateing. When I tried to install the EA patch it asked for the original disc even with the mini image mounted. Is there a thread related to this or must I track down my original install disk in order to apply the patch?
Crypton

you need to put in your "origional" disc in order to proceed with the update, the minidisc will not work as the patch gathers some data off the origional cd.

If you are running XP, is is updated to latest updates from MS Update and are you running XP's Built in Firewall?

hello.........im in need of a little help, may appear silly, though how do you get the game (sims2) to run without any cd? i only ask as my game discs have been damaged and dont work, the only thing i can think of doing to save a little money is buy the expansion pack, and hopefully the game will run off that...would it work or do i need all the discs?
@ Spooked:
Thinking of becoming a pirate game user? Nope, just don't do that. Protections are nothing to make worth stealing.
Using the step-by-step guide, you should get the game to run without any cd, just follow it and you'll be okay.

Well, the expansion pack requires the origional CD/DVD because it will require the game to be patched (updated) so I don't think the expansion will allow you to play. Even if it did, how would you play if you have to reinstall having your origionals damaged? If you have a "real" legal serial # or proof of purchase, EA im sure will be able to provide you a replacement set of CD's at a lower price to cover shipping + maybe like 10 bucks or so to cover any other charges they have. I would email them to find out, but im sure they could replace damaged discs at a low price.

/me welcomes back myself
I can't understand how clydester isn't able to play the games without the discs. Even though the "my disk was damaged" excuse is getting pretty lame, I'll give them the benefit of doubt.
If the game IS already installed, by following the step-by-step guide you'll get the game running with no CDs at all.
However, games don't install without the originals, so you should contact EA with proof of purchase and your serial, as Crypton said, and you will get your replacements.

There's a difference between an illegal and a backup copy... Which you should find if you do a read through the game's EULA.
To make backup copies of the game, you can use Alcohol 120%, with the appropriate profile, and download the mini-images in order to play the games.
And to answer your question, you can use the original University disk on a backed up copy of Sims 2.

Sims2.ISO

I mounted the MDS image with daemon tools, installed the game, replaced the original sims2.exe with the cracked one. It works fine. I've tried cracking it again, uninstalling it and reinstalling it on the account which it doesn't work on, same problem. I tried giving the account full adminstrative rights, same problem.

I know you said you tried reinstalling it, but have you tried reinstalling it on the account that is having the problem?
Also, you might want to clear your temp files before trying on another user account.
Easy waut to locate your temp folder is goto Start Menu > Run and type in %Temp% and Press Enter
All them files in the folder it opens, delete them, (some may not be able to be deleted) For any that cannot be deleted, you have a program that is using them atm. Such as Messenger programs, ect..
Here is another way to delete files in the temp folder
( Note this is a batch file I have created. If you do not trust my bat file, then you can make it yourself, or do it manually :) )
http://rapidshare.de/files/2073672/tempdel.rar.html
Just download, extract and double click.
** Note **
Double Click the Batch file on all user accounts on your PC. To ensure that all temp files get removed. By default Windows XP creates a personal temp folder for each account unless you manually change the system variables to have only 1 temp location.
If you do not want my bat file, here is what to put in your own:
Command to put in .bat file is:
@ECHO OFF
IF NOT %temp% == %tmp% GOTO both
GOTO single
:both
DEL %temp%\*.* /F /S /Q
DEL %tmp%\*.* /F /S /Q
CLS
ECHO Deleted all files in the TEMP folder: %temp%
ECHO Deleted all files in the TMP folder: %tmp%
GOTO end
:single
DEL %temp%\*.* /F /S /Q
CLS
ECHO Deleted all files in the TEMP folder: %temp%
:end
The above code is the same as the download, only the download is already in a bat file for you.
What this does is deletes any temporary files in your Windows temp folder, inlcuding any temp folders that are in there as well. Any files that are "in use" will not be deleted as they are write protected, but you can run this after a clean boot and close any programs that startup when ou start windows and it should delete everything in the temp folder.
lemme know if this helps. A full temp folder can cause conflicts such as you mentioned, but not always the case. Worth a try, let us know.
To change your system to have 1 temp folder for all user accounts
Goto Start Menu > Control Panel
Find and double click the System icon
Goto Advanced Tab and at the bottom click Environment Variables.
up top you will see Temp and TMP listed.
Double Click Temp and replace Variable Value with
C:\WINDOWS\Temp
do the same for TMP
After clicking ok and getting back out of the control panel, reboot your PC. Now all user accounts will share the same Temp folder and any installs done will be temp shared in the same location as well.

I have searched through this page, and I don't think anyone has my same problem. I am installing Sims 2 on a pc running windows 64 bit. I am using filedisk to and winimage to mount the 4 cd's. It installs with no problems. Then I go to mount the mini image. Filedisk will mount a MDF file but not the mds. Either way this disk shows up under my computer. However when I try to play the game it comes up and says "PLease insert the correct CD-ROM, select OK and restart application". I have tried everything I can think of, but still no luck. I once tried the patch as well as the cd...the banner that says money would come up, and then the please insery the correct cd thingy would come up. I'm not sure what to do, any ideas or thoughts would be great!

The problem you are having is your not able to "Emulate" the games protection. As of now, there is not much support for 64bit platforms, however, the guys who develope Daemon-Tools are working on a 64bit version of their software. My suggestion is to hold tight till then.
http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/viewtopic.php?t=4501
http://forum.alcohol-soft.com/index.php?showtopic=9880&hl=64bit
Bout the only thing you can do is wait :/ Not any support as of yet for emulation on 64bit platforms, check the links above for more details.
DarkLeftos
31-05-2005, 12:45 PM
And as always, there is the classic solution of holding tight to your original CD4 to play the game.
I don't trust Money's fix anymore anyway.
And as for an alternative 32-bit OS (if you have 1.5gigs free, that is) try Windows Server 2003. I've found them way less memory-consumptive and more secure than any other version, and that just after following a very helpful Security Wizard.
My XP is going out of the window, they aren't working good anyway. The only reason I haven't deleted them yet is that I use them as my "Starforce-infected" OS, in order to keep Win2003 clean from it.

That is the latest info.. The thread was closed to prevent further posts.. Thus being why the last post was April 4, which was only last month.
There is NO support for 64 atm, they are testing their current 64bit drivers and will release it when testing is complete.
I want to stop all this discsussion and tell all that AMD-64 drivers are ready long ago, but they will be released only after internal testing will be finished with new driver architecture.
No release estimates as usually - you will see it when in our opinion "it's done

It's their first post, which obliges Moderators like me to say hello and welcome to them.
But why should I? They're posting without even reading the rules, talking about stealing hard work (a.k.a. Warez).
Just to clear the view for you Camilla, The Sims 2 University is an actual GAME which you have to BUY as well. GameBurnWorld is not a place to download games, it's a place to download cracks to use with your LEGALLY BOUGHT CDs.
Hope that's enough.

It's mentioned in my guide...
Q: I heard that there is a crack that works fully and is still posted on various sites. Does it really work?
A: Actually, there is ONE crack that does work fully with the original Sims 2 and has been verified to. It is the Money's No-DVD release, which works if you have the International CD or DVD version of the game. This crack can be downloaded here.
It is NOT guaranteed to work, the only method that is is the step-by-step guide above.
As for the University expansion, I won't bother with any no-cd cracks, until I see one that really works.
Hello
I have a problem with the original game.
I bought it six months ago and have since stopped playing it, but I felt a little tempeted to play it again.
I have to say, that this game has probably the most nerve-ending installation issues. When I bought it, it took me at an average of 3 hours trying to get it to install.
It allways had completly different problems. Once it stopped as early 2%, then at 8%, then at 16%, then 22%, 65%, 72%, etc.
But somehow a miracle happened and once it came through without errors and finally, It had granted me a few weeks of playing.
Since I've stopped playing it, I have reformated my hard drive and have forgotten all about it.
But now, it's all over again. Only this time, a more precise problem has appered.
It now stops only and allways at 72%, which gave me a felling that the CD3 is scratched (the thing is though I could burn it and make an image from that CD). I can't return the game now, since it's been two long. I had nothing to lose, I mounted the image and the other CDs to try installing it.
And, well, the other CDs apparently went on strike. I doesn't even get to CD3, it is again stopping at completly random spots.
So, if anyone knows what the hell is going on, could you please have mercy and tell me?

Product Called Game Doctor
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/174656.asp
It works wonders on scratched cd's. Most game stores and major shopping centers that contain an electronics section have them. The product finely sands the surface of the cd using a mixture of solutions and a wheel that contains very fine sand paper along it. It can repair some pretty nasty scratches and get you running again. The product costs from around $20-$39 usd depending on where you get it.
It is worth getting however as it can save you tons of headache.
And for the user reviews, don't listen to the idiots bad mouthing it. Truth is, if used correctly as per instructions and you dont sit their grinding away your cd more than instructed, you should have no problems even on the thinnest cheapest of cd media. Trust me on that, I have used mine to the point where I need a new one because the cd disc platform teeth that hold the cd in place have worn and the cd's flop around on mine. Anyways, ill get a new one eventually, but I highly recommend it and if you get one, read the instructions, dont just go grinding away without knowing what your doin to your cd. It takes a layer of the plastic off the cd each time used correctly. and remember CD's do not have very many layers, less for cheap CD;s though PS/PS2 cd's (black cd's) tends to be very thick.

Have you updated your video card drivers? Do you get this effect in any other games. And, does this only happen when trying to play from a backup? Or does it happen when playing from the origional CD as well?

Crypton, you're doing quite a well job supporting people here, but don't you think we should keep it to no-cd discussion only? No offence, but if people need Tech Support, they should go to the company's website.
Another idea would be to create a Tech Support forum only in GameFileForums, so all non-nocd questions could be asked there.
Crypton
09-07-2005, 02:48 AM
well, I agree, but it is sorta a CD related question, reason I asked if it happens with the origional or only from backup. The "Video Drivers" I usually throw in because alot of people will use the drivers that came on CD with their card and usually are outdated by the time the card is released to public.
Anyhoo.. The blurry line effect can be caused by conflict with the emulation drive, a reinstall of the virtual drive software (such as daemon-tools) and installing updated drivers for the system such as video sound ect.. can ensure better compatability when trying to emulate software environments.

Hi all.
First off. the info on the first page was a massive help and i now have the sims 2 working in all it's glory.
However now i felt that i should move onto the next game. university.
i have D\L this and have d-tools imagine of disc one and disc two burned to a cd. this all works and my laptop can read the disc etc... the launcher works fine and the EP begins to install, after 100% it says it must check to see if the sims 2 is up to date.
then a new window pops up displaying the sims 2 updater... but before anything happens i get a pop-up saying to insert the sims 2 dvd. (i got the dvd version.)
i have remounted the sims 2 imagine (the mini-imagine suggested on the first page) in d-tools and clicked ok, but still it asks for the disc.
Can anyone suggest a way around this?
I have heard talk of a disc 4 needed to be mounted, but i assume thats for the cd-version.
Any help will be grateful.
and i apologise if this has been already answered in a post in this thread. but im at work and don't have the time to siffed through 17 pages.
Hi
my game work well but i can't use my build mode in the game
can anyone help me !!!

If you are using a "fix" with your origional game then it is the fix that is causing the problem. Try the Mini-Disc or Another Mini-Disc instead and put the origional exe back.

Great info here, cheers all.
Got the game working 100% with Uni pack too, need both images mounted.
But lost nude patch, how do I get that back? BM prog says "Sims2.exe not found! Make sure you copied this file into the The Sims 2\TSBin folder where the Sims2.exe is located" (Pic) (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/p.tucker/Sims2nude.jpg)
My g/f says she needs nude peeps in the game, like it was. Can anyone help please (for a quiet life lol)

I have tried various patches some work some dont . i have found one that works . It loads up quicker and saves CD1.
However the Header says it all - There is no build function.
Also internet explore auto login is disabled. I know there is a separate fix from EA but if you run it it reverts the No CD patch- Damned naughty these programme vendors !.
I am after the holy grail- a patch that includes the build function and resist the ea patch for auto connection

Hi guys,
I installed the DVD version of The Sims 2, and everything went just fine (I mean the installation and running the game)... Now I'm trying to install University Expansion Pack (DVD version also) but I couldn't :( when the setup is about to finish, The Sims 2 Updater run and asking me to insert The Sims 2 CD 4  I don't have CD 4 or even any CD!!! I have the DVD. I tried to insert the DVD put it didn't accept it, not also when I mount the mini image! I'm really confused and disappointed :(
Thanks in advance.

I would suggest contacting EA about that, we really cannot help with that issue. Seems more or less something EA Techincal Support would need to answer.
And moved this to the correct location on the site.

I installed my game last week, and forgot my cds in my house (I'm on vacation in a different city). With out knowing there isn't a working fix for the game, copy and pasted a fix over my original application file.
I then found out the fix doesn't work correctly, and learned of using images. The only problem now, is I'm stuck with the no-cd fix instead of the original file.
Can someone please send me the original file? Via yousendit or something? Please help.

all the ones on this page
http://www.gameburnworld.com/gp/gamefixes/sims2nightlife.shtml
work, tested them here a little while ago. So far the one I get best results from is the 381KB one and the 8MB one.
the 600k copy seems to give a random prob during prolonged gameplay. Such as, sims get stuck in 1 spot and menus get disabled so unable to save game or move the sim. Only option it to quit the game.
Various other glitches occur during gameplay as well using the 600KB MiniDisc. Others I have not encountered the problem as of yet with the other 2 MiniDiscs, (This is around 6+ hours of nons-top gameplay btw.)

Dark and Cryptos,
I feel so sorry for you two.
I have a bit of an idea for doing the jump between Sims 2 (Basic) and University
I haven't actually tried it because I only have the US DVD Version. So I'm relegated to playing with the Disc.
What I'm wondering is if a user actually goes to the EA site and says they have the 4 CD version and downloads the updater, and then someone makes an image of the 4th CD and uses that if it will still find the correct data to update?
Near as I can tell the US DVD Version has no image work around.
Reason I'm trying to put this idea to the test is for the simple fact that since my company likes to ship me to the ass-end of civilization for weeks on end, I like to take longer games with me. Sims 2, sometimes if I have good internet and it's not a "WiFi" hotel/motel/trailer (yeah, I said trailer) I get to do an online game like WOW, EQ, SWG whatever. It keeps me out of the local bars, off the local broads, and out of any stripclubs within range of my rental car. Or the local Indian Casinos.
Usually what I do since I rarely have to have any data except for the job I'm working on (customer info and our diag tools), I usually prefer to carry as little extra as possible. And it's easy to image the laptop for a trip and then I throw the ISOs on the Harddisk and go for broke. It's bad enough when I fly to have them go through everything I figure the less they have to search, the better off I am. Especially when I have one giant Halliburton hard case for the "rugged" laptop, the WiFi Booster Antenna, the damn GPS Unit, the Satellite Phone, etc, etc, etc, I'd rather not carry around more than I ABSOLUTELY have to have. Since I've got enough gear to start a mini comms center where ever I land.
Also we only use Alcohol and Daemon. No Clone CD or Nero or anything like that. And each load comes with a fresh and clean Windows XP Pro install with ALL Patches and this get updated every 2 months for a new "Naked Image Build" Then I throw on my tools, then my entertainment. I've never gotten the US DVD to emulate for anything. Granted that even the ass-ends of civilization have a Wally World within 20-70 miles of where I'm at, it's kind of a waste to expense a copy of a game I already own, just to be pitched out, when I depart because I don't want to lug it back.
I know that A)Yes I should be fortunate enough to have the means and the opportunity to do that.
But B) I'm lazy and once I get back to my room (where ever it may be) I just want to kick up the game and go for broke. I recently got the Nightlife expansion so I'll have a chance to tear into it when I ship out in two weeks to some BFE spot in nowhere South Dakota. It does suck because I pre-ordered it and I have the car that comes along with it, but won't be able to do a damn thing with it for two weeks.
Thanks for the great guide, very factual and to the point. Just didn't seem to cover my crazy idea.

Dark and Cryptos,
I feel so sorry for you two.
For?
--------------------------
hmm, interesting idea, but I do not think it would work that way. However, you can if you have the DVD version, make a mini-disc of it, and put on the HDD for use while your away. If you want a quick easy method, that requires nothing from you besides the cd and a simple download.
You may want to try MIR http://www.gameburnworld.com/dl/dl3.php?file=MIRv1.0.rar
Simply download, extract to a folder, insert the DVD, open Alcohol 120%, you may want to turn on a couple of options in Alcohol 120% however..
In Alcohol 120%, goto File > Options, then goto Emulation and check the checkbox for RMPS This will allow software emulation of the DVD once created. Now make the image
make an image using the SafeDisc (new) option in Alcohol 120%, then after making the image, run MIR and choose the image you made (Input Image), then select the location to save the MiniDisc to (OutPut Image)
Click Process, in a short period of time it will create a MiniDisc image roughly around 25MB in size. (beats 3-4GB Image) Which is easily portable on the Labtop you are carrying with you.
You can do this for each CD you own and want to take with you such as the Sim 2 expansions and the origional.
You can emulate it using Daemon-Tools making sure to turn on SafeDisc and RMPS Emulation and mounting the minidisc image.
Its a fast, simple process and will work if you do it right, you may need to actually create the Images and then process them as MiniDiscs on a normal PC as some labtops do not have drives capable of making a 100% copy. Im sure you know if yours can however, but to be safe, use a desktop. If you have a DVD-RW you can easily transfer the MiniDisc images over, otherwise, LAN will work as well.
Anyhow, lemme know how it goes.

Crypton

Recently i reinstalled sims 2 for my gf, becouse she totally digs sims.
so i got her the student life expansion thingy as well.
My problem is though, the Mini Images dont work,
I use deamon very often, so i know the ins and outs of this cute program.
Ive tried different emulation setups, but non help, if they are all set to "on" booting up college life crashed my pc (same happened with the sims 2, untill i got that working patch/hack/crack thing)
I have been reading a lot, and searching a lot, but i cant find a way to get that student life working.
And atm i cant find a working crack (good job from ea i guess lol)
anybody know of one?

Having to answer the same question over and over and over again because the RTFM rule wasn't being heeded on the first post.
And all the thinly veiled attempts a people masking the warez angle.
Is it pronounced "wears" or "war-ez" like Juarez Mexico?
Anyway, back to my original question. I didn't know if I could do a Mini-Disc Image of a DVD. I guess in my mind, I thought something would balk when the correct media wasn't in place.
Thanks for the tip guys and keep up the good work.

OK. I re-read the post again.
I'm thinking I still have to copy the isos to the Laptop (BTW all ISOS are created from Alcohol on the "Image Server" on my network.) Plus it's much much easier to feed my bloated DVD images for my complete Windows install over the network. Seeing as its WinXP and Office 2K3 with all updates included, much easier than having to make a new DVD every 2 months for the volume of data I'm pushing.
I don't have images of the game installed and operational. I usually throw the saved games back onto the server with all the disc ISOs so I can pull those as well as the ISOs to install.
But if I'm installing when I get to location, I can't do it with the Mini-Discs so I need the ISOs and then can run them off the Mini Discs (in lieu of dragging my CD's DVD's into the field) and can delete the ISOs after my install, right?
I've never had problems before but normally I don't have games that are on DVD's. So in my effort to have less clutter lying about I've created more problems than I've solved.
Thanks for the help again everyone and patience with what seems like beginner level problems. For some reason I just can't seem to wrap my head around this US DVD quandry.

[SIZE=2][I]Q: I heard that there is a crack that works fully and is still posted on various sites.
As for the University expansion, I won't bother with any no-cd cracks, until I see one that really works.
that crack doesn't work for me, i don't have clone cd, and i also can't install alcohol 120% or daemon tools.
it just asks for the correct cd

9. Browse through your computer for the files you downloaded and extracted in Step 4 and select the SIMS21_MINI.MDS (for the original Sims 2) or the BLH-TS2U1.mds (for the Sims 2 University) file.
I'm having a problem here, the image I got from the link is not SIMS21_MINI.MDS and when I go through the rest of the steps using the file I did get from the download, it asks for the proper CD when I try and start the game.

Try these m8,
Sims2_1_RIP = Sim 2 (Origional)
Sims2EP1_1 = Sims 2: University
Sims2EP2_1fixedimage = Sims 2: Nightlife
Enjoy, and be sure to enable "SafeDisc Emulation" in Daemon-Tools, choose All Option ON would be best.

You do not need to use a "crack" when your using the Mini-discs, you can keep the origional EXE file and use just the Mini-Disc. When you update and it asks for your origional CD, you will still need to insert the CD, otherwise it should update as long as the origional exe is still in place.

not the crack but dvd fixed game from money, but what i try was use the mini image with dvd fixed by money and i try to install the update game it tell me to insert but my question is that if i useing mini disc to play the game why it dosent want to update it. and the second thing that did was that replace the original with dvd fix and load the mni disc but it still tell me the same..and i really need to install it, i dont have my original game anymore b/c it's all stracth from my little cousing..
Crypton
23-09-2005, 07:52 AM
its not updating because 2 reasons.
1: It wants the origional .exe file in the game folder, not the fixed one
2: It wants to read some data off your origional DVD
the MiniDisc does not contain any "complete" game data, in otherwords the data you see on the MiniDisc is not usuable because it has been truncated or cut off.
The only thing the Minidisc serves a purpose for is it also contains info which you cannot see, and that is the protection which is on the Origional DVD. The data is written to sub channels along the CD, which can be copied, but does not show up as a "folder" or "file"
So you are going to need the Origional DVD in order to get it working with an update, and you wont need a "fixed" exe if you use the Mini-Disc because the MiniDisc "emulates" the protection that the origional DVD has.
I would get a scratch repair kit from the store and try repairing that DVD.

Not really sure, possible that maybe your drive is having problems reading the CD/DVD ?
You may want to insert the CD/DVD, make a new folder on desktop, open the CD Drive and select all, right click choose copy, then paste in the new folder.
See if it all copies without any errors.
If no errors, you can try installing by running setup from the new folder.

CD is bad or your drive is failing. Nothing can be done except buy a new game to get a good copy. Or buy a new CD/DVD Rom drive, depending on which it is.
Cyclic Redundancy Check is a clue that the data is corrupt. Either from your CD/DVD Drive going bad, unable to read the Disc or a Bad Disc.

I have no idea, they change the rules so much, best bet would be get into contact with the place you purchased the game from. They may swap out the cd's for you.

Hi, i have the original Cd, but i want to make a back of Cd #1 which i use alcohol 120% the latest versoin and then i did all the options right i turned off the efm box then i stared the image at 4x speed. Then it stared and on the log it kept saying Data read error: 823, 859, 932 ect. but it did end up completing then i tried using it to run the game the picture pops up that says SIMS 2 like its loading for about 1 min then all of a sudden it comes up with a windows error saying sorry sims 2 has encounterd and error then it closes the loading. So i figured ill get the mini img. and mount it with Daemon V3.47 i used the mini img that was givin from this forum unziped it put it in a folder then i mounted it and i enabled all emulation i pretty much did what you said on this thread but it ends up having the same problem that the cd does it acts like its loading then BAM crashes and gives me the windows error PLEASE HELP ME! im out of solutions please repost here or email me at dukeslancer@lycos.com i need this asap.

Hi
You wrote on the information of the crack that it would also work with the CD version of Sims 2, but when I start the game I'm told to insert the right DVD.
Maybe it doesen't work because I've got te german version of the game.
Would it be to much work to do a crack for the cd release?
Sorry for my bad english but I'm german :o .

We personally don't make the fixes, others make them and they get submitted to us. I will keep an eye out for a German version fix however.

What are you running the game with? It may be running slow from your hard drive, if your system specs are not good that is.

Ok, from what I've scanned in this thread, it seems that the THE SIMS 2 v1.0 [ENGLISH] *DVD RELEASE* FIXED EXE (12.7MB) only works for international versions of the game. I have the US version and have the game already installed and needed a no cd patch (for an already installed paid for version) because my dvd-rom drive is going out. I got so excited when I found this, but obviously it doesn't work. How am I to get my game working now? Am I simply just S.O.L. and have to buy a new dvd-rom drive?:( Just to be specific and clear, how do I get my game to run that's already installed? Is there a patch just for this purpose?

Read the rules....... NO WAREZ/PIRATE DISCUSSION
It is really is not hard to understand.
Buy the game, next post regarding downloaded illegal content of any type = BAN.
At any rate. All solutions that work with this game are in this thread, if you still cannot get the game working, then there is not much else we can do, use the origional CD you bought.
Duffman or DarkLeftos. Please lock the thread, I would do it, but since DarkLeftos made the thread, one of you 2 can lock it.. same discussion that had been covered over and over and it will just keep getting more warez talk added to it..
