I own both these games. I think they came out in 1998 and 1999. To me they're still alot of fun, but I hate having to use the CD to play the game. Plus cd's don't last forever.

So, I'd like to figure out how to remove the CD requirement and store the games on my hard drive. That way I could back them up....makes me feel more secure than just hoping that the CDs last forever.

What utility should I use to accomplish this? ...and could someone give me a quick overview of how to do it? I'm new to the idea of mucking around with the files/innards of a game. (FWIW, I did find at RPGdot a link to a file that enables mm6 to run in XP. Apparently there's more to it than just setting compatibility mode and turning off graphics and sound hardware acceleration. For some reason mm7 doesn't require more than setting up the compatibility correctly though....no alternative .exe to use.)

Thanks,
Ceci

Might and Magic 6 is protected with various CD Checks and what is called OverSized TOC and 7 is protected with SafeDisc. 1 or 2, cannot remember, but fairly sure it was a build of version 1 SafeDisc.

Both can be backed up, but you will need to use a NOCD Fix'ed exe after installing them (though they are able to be backed up and working from a CD-R.)

Grab those files for the games, get the last update patches that were released for the games by the developers.

You can use Any burning software, such as Nero, Alocohol 120%, Blindwrite, ect..

But I would recommend something simple like UltraISO or WinISO. Make make an image of the CD in .ISO format, then open it with WinISO or UltraISO and drag and drop the patch and fix for each game onto their CD (preferably there own folder named something like Patches or Cracks.)

Then click save and WinISO or UltraISO will update the image containing the patches/cracks. Then you can simply burn them to a CD and have a backup to use that will have all the files you need on the CD's.

Alternatively you can put both games on DVD, though it would be a waste of space unless you have more things you are backing up to fill the 4.3GB space..

UltraISO is pretty straight forward, easy to use, if you are looking for a free program to do the about the same thing.

If you need further help, lemme know, i've been fairly busy lately with some work, but I can make a short tutorial with pics showing how to do what I was explaining above.
