Yes i am also looking for this file. Was just released yesterday but it would be cool if someone would release the nocd file soon.

It will be out soon, just be patient, it may not be a No-CD though, may be released as a "Fixed exe" e.g. the protection is not active, but the CD checks still remains (to play from a backup CD).
Keep an eye on the New Files section on the main page.

That seems to me to be pointless. The other rome files include nocd's of 1.0 and 1.1

I'm not saying for sure that the CD checks will still be in the exe, but it is possible, it's done as the whole protection is removed with an unwrapper in most cases, this just removes the protection, which is all the encrypted data, the CD checks can still remain, they may not.

Could be anytime, we have seen some patch updates cracked in 30 minutes of the patch update coming out, some a week, some a month, some never at all.

Remember the first rule people...
There is on eMule some sort of "mini image" file that tricks cd-protection when mounted with alcohol120% or similar program (watch for fakers the real file is 2.17MB "no cd crack fix" RAR).
I think that same file could be found at some link in no-cd RTW post at megagames forums.
It gets better then real no-cd EXE since it should work with all patches.
Personally, I always thought that you would need a real 700MB 1:1 image of original discs to gets these things to work.
DuffMan

The Rome: Total War v1.2 update uses a completely new version of SafeDisc 4 on it, so it won't be cracked over night like previous versions.
DarkLeftos
14-02-2005, 06:05 AM
Mini-images are a pure copy of the table of contents of the original disc, so it manages to trick the protection into believing that the original one is inserted.
And yes, using mini-images IS prefered, as it works with any patch, any version of the certain game.

People, people. Do not bump your topics, asking "any word yet" or "come on crackers, do your job."
(I should make this a rule...)
Crackers ARE doing their jobs, and posting in this forum will do nothing about it. The moderating team will be posting news as soon as they're in, so be patient, and do not bump.

can someone gimmie a quick step by step on how to use this? Thanks in advacne.
i downloaded everyhting, the images and the daemon thing, now how and where do I put it together and mount the images?
Crypton

?
First, of course you need the game installed, then the latest patch (1.2 atm)
Next simply extract the minidisc images to a folder somwhere (maybe game directory is a good place?)
Then, load Daemon-Tools, right click the Daemon-Tools icon in systray, goto Emulation and Select "All options ON"
Next, right click the Daemon-Tools icon in systray goto Virtual CD/DVD-ROM > Device yada yada no media > Mount Image
Then browse to the minidisc image, load it up, run the game...
If you get a message saying no disc inserted in the drive when running Rome- Total War for the first time with the minidisc, just click Cancel, the game will continue to load, it will only give this message once, as it will update the registry on the last location the cd was found, in this case it would be your Emulated Daemon-Tools Drive Letter.
** GRR, forgot how addicting this game was, now im stuck playing it again 0o **

I really hope that people dont keep making theese stupid mini image fixes, i`m sure that they make games crash, turn themself off or something.
Or at least thats what is happening to the game RTW (maybe).
I hope that someone will make a exe file for crack to this game!!
There is benefit too.
You only need one image per game, not per patch.

Maybe so, but stil i dont trust this type of crack.
I`m so pissed of because Rome: Total War seems to crash with v1.2 and when i use the mini image for it. Since there still is no alternate thing to use, i cant play my favourite game anymore. Since the new version makes the game (may seem imposible) even better.
So my first impression of mini images is not god. :D

Hey, hey, hey... People, what are you talking about? The BEST alternative, that ALWAYS works, is using your original CD! You can't depend on cracks for whether you can play the game or not...
I smell warez around here...
The biggest problem with people is lack of knowlegde when using mini-image.
Like what program to use when mounting.
What programs should be uninstalled to prevent emulation detection.
etc...
EDIT:
It's interesting that those inexperienced users that use pirated sowtware are hit the worst. For example with some emulating software installed even original CD won't work (unil you deinstall it). But those with pirated CDs would not know that, since they always used no-cds, which never cared about what software have instlled (a good point of no-cds, by the way).
Then, they would start raving in forums that mini-image are crap, and when somebody asked them to try does game work with original CD, they are just silent, or say, I just lent it to the friend.

If a RTW is crashing when you are using a minidisc, this is a sign that you have a software or hardware problem on your computer. The images are fine. Only advice I can give is if you don't trust a crack of this type and are wanting to play the game, use the origional cd, or crack it yourself. Your opinion might be mini-images are not good, but majority of the peeps around would rather use one since they require no changing exe's each patch ect..
Not using a "fixed" exe or other form of patch/loader to run a game will present alot less problems as there is no bug within the exe besides the ones the devs left there. MiniDiscs either work or dont work.
Best tool to use for mini images is Daemon-Tools, as alcohol does not always work properly, and make sure all emulation options are on, not just the emulation the cd is protected with.

On the other hand, no-cds are more dependable.
If it works on one config, it will work on all configs (that game intself supports of course).

Even so, no-cd cracks haven't gotten round to disabling the emulation software check, which is also part of the protection.
So, as a note, the main program that causes conflicts with the protections, is CloneCD, so uninstall it, or try the latest version.
As far as understood, no-cds disable all checks, and thus don't care if you have emulations or not.

I remember versions of Sims 2 cracks having still the CloneCD detection problem... So I wouldn't agree there with you.
Remember, companies have found the way to stop no-cd cracks (remember StarForce, Sims 2...)
Especially Sims 2 university, I mean GOD! I went to EA's Technical Support website the other day, and there were at least 30 different issues, which were adressed to No-CD cracks... I mean, why install the no-cd crack, and have 30 serious game issues, when I can download the very small mini-image (or create my own) and be able to patch and upgrade my game whenever I want? With two clicks (as I keep all mini-images in one folder), I can load whatever game I want, and no worries for crashes or stuff.
I'll go with mini-images from now on.

:)
also, simply right clicking the main Rome Total War folder and goto properties, check what attributes the folder has checked. Uncheck read only and press ok, it will ask for 2 options, choose "apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files"
If that does not work, follow the link I posted above for some MS Solutions.

I have read through this thread and i wish to seek some clarification if i may.
Does one have to have the game cd still in the drive as well as having an emulation program running to emulate the mini-cd on yet another drive? (ie. you can't take out your game cd and have the emulated mini-cd work)
Is it correct in my understanding that anyone who uses a backup copy (as well as pirated for those who do such a thing) of their CD instead of the original will cause a "CD/DVD emulation software has been detected. Please disable all CD/DVD emulations software and re-start the game." message to be displayed when trying to load the game?
Is there a work around to this so that the mini-disc can still be used?
I have in the past recieved this error also whilst having Virtual Drive installed. It's since been uninstalled but since i patched the game, i now require an emulator.. But the program will not let me start with the emulator (Virtual Daemon 3.47 as suggested in the readme file) running/installed.
A friendly and speedy reply would be recieved with much gratitude.
Thanks,
Crypton

yes, the purpose of the MiniDisc is to enable playing without a "Real" CD in the drive..
As for work arounds, yes there are some, I posted a pretty large post about blacklisting and how to help prevent it.

Thanks a mint, Crypton. Turn's out (silly me), after doing a few more searches on the internet, i discovered it doesn't seem to matter what version of clone cd you have, the program will still be detected by emulation detection.
Been a while since i installed the game but that turned out to be the problem. I installed the game, had the problem before.. then got tired of trying to figure out what was wrong (after uninstalling all actual emulators i had -- only V.Drive 7 i think it was), and so i downloaded the fixed .exe file. I forgot that i never actually solved the problem.
So when i patched to the newest version after a friend suggested internet play sometime soon, i discovered the problem had 'come back' (never really solved in the first place).
Long story short, Clone CD was causing the problem. I uninstalled it and low and behold, she works now! =)
Keep up your excellant work in allowing us to play our games without cd's.
Cheers,
Crypton

Can anyone tell me what's wrong 'cause it seems that i'm the only one that i get this kind of thing!

I was about to follow the instructins posted above by Crypton, to use Daemon-Tools to avoide having to keep my RTW cd in the cd-drive. However, I read that Daemon-Tools installs a SCSI driver. I already have a scsi-driver loaded (my entire system is SCSI: hard disks, CDROM, CDRW.) Will Daemon-Tools sill work without messing with the rest of my system?
Crypton
04-07-2005, 02:30 AM
Daemon-Tools installs it's own SCSI Drivers. It will not effect your own SCSI driver that were already installed., So yes, just install Daemon-Tools, set all emulation options on, then mount the CD image/mini image and it should work.

Should not matter which drive you are using the MiniDisc on, however, im sure it is possible some could have a problem depending on the origional drive letter the game was installed from, so since I cannot rule that out at this time, I uploaded the MiniDisc I have and use that works, as well as a registry file for Windows 9x/ME and one for Windows NT, 2000, XP, and 2003
Read the instructions and use my MiniDisc. Report back if it still does not work for you.

Browse what disc? The minidisc? That wont do any good since the files on the minidisc have been truncated.
After mounting the MiniDisc with all emaulation option set to ON in Daemon-Tools, simply run the game from the Shortcut either the one on the desktop or in the Start Menu.
If it pops up saying insert disc, or disk not found, click "Continue" it should then begin loading the game.

eh? You should be extracting the files from the rar using Winrar http://www.rarlab.com/

Hi people. Im new to this, in fact I signed to the forums beacuse of this thread.
Well, here is my problem. Im doing everything Crypton has posted about the mini-image (havent tried the new one yet), and it does work. But then i tried installig the 1.2 patch. My system language is "Español: Mexico". I usually select English for the installation, but this time i forgot to do so. So the installer popped an incompatibilty with the game message. Then i chosed English, but it popped the same message. I even reinstalled the hole game. but it didnt work.
Is there some kind of registry entry about this?? or what do you think may be the proble?
btw, I think this mini-images thing (or trend as someone said) is a very nice solution. The game works perfectly, it is just the patch installer that wont let me install the patch

to function the patch 1.2,
makes the following one:
1- download Rome_TW_1.2_fix = http://rapidshare.de/files/2945480/Rome_TW_1.2_fix.rar.html
2-Extract files.rar;
3-Install DAEMON Tools
and Open DAEMON Tools;
4-In DAEMON ,click in ´´Virtual Cd/DVD-Rom´´
5-Click in ´´Set number of devices...´´´
(important it gives attention,now)
6-In ´´Set number of devices´´,click in ´´2 drives´´

http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs36&d=05270&f=imagem2.JPG
7-Inside ´´Virtual Cd/DVD-Rom´´,click in Device 0:[E]No Media and click in ´´Mount image´´,and click file ´´Rome_TW_CD1.mdf´´
8-Inside ´´Virtual Cd/DVD-Rom´´,click in Device 1:[F]No Media and click in ´´Mount image´´,and click file ´´Rome_TW_CD1.mds´´

it functions perfectly

Just a note m8, .mds file is just a Media Descriptor File, (basically .cue) .cue exactly how it is pronounced. It just tells the virtual drive what to load, where protections start/stop ect. Basic info on the real image which the real image (Data) is the .mdf file.
Sounds more like your game is trying to load from the other drive, but mounting the mds on one drive and mdf on the other is actually not even needed. Try just mounting the mds on one, if it doesnt work, mount the mds on the other. The Emulation cannot proceed if it does not know how. When you mount the mds to a drive, the emulation will take place on that drive only, it will not effect the other drive. You would have to mount the mds on the other drive in order for the emulation to work on the other drive as well.
Anyways, just trying to help you understand what the 2 files are, mounting a mdf will not do anything, it must be mounted from mds in order to work.
Since you mounted the mds file however, it is auto loading the mdf file to that drive therefore it is working, while the mdf you mounted is actually doing nothing. Hope that was understandable.

Bad mini-disc maybe? Are you using Daemon-Tools v.3.47 ? And are you turning on all emulation options in Daemon-Tools? Where did you get the MiniDisc, from this site or?
Also if you have any other software running such as "Alcohol 120%" or any CD software other than Daemon-Tools you will need to exit them, this includes exiting the tray icon (tasks) running in the system tray (lower right on your screen)
Try this image:
http://rapidshare.de/files/2835079/rtw_cryptonminidisc.rar.html
Also if you are running CloneCD Read this, which was on the Daemon-Tools website forums.:
"Disable CloneCD's Hide CD-R media function (via CloneCD Tray) - you MUST disable this function, it's enabled even with CloneCD Tray disabled."

Don't see how it would effect running the game since the Total Realism Mod does not replace the EXE and the EXE is what runs (Executes) the game, the Total Realism is just scripts to change things such as AI and will not affect the Emulation Capability of Daemon-Tools

Hmm, yea i can get into the game just fine, but after that I can't start any game, or load any saved game. Can you? As soon as i Try to load a saved game, i get booted off to the desktop, and if i try and start a new game, it won't even start to run. Perhaps i'm using a bad Minidisk or something?

sounds more like a compatibility issue with the old save game and the new game content added by the mod. I started with a clean install of the game, updated to 1.2 then added the total realism mod + patched it to latest version and am able to save/load play ect.. with no problems.

Oh ok, definitely sounds like the compatibility issue. What minidisk are you using from what site? I'll have to try that version, or just do an entirely new/fresh install. Thanks for the help!

Did a fresh install...can get into rome w/ 5.4.1 realism, but again won't go into any game, there isn't even a choice to enter it just allows you to click on the first one, can't enter the game tho. strange.

0o, everything install ok with the mod? No errors, or anything? Weird sounding, mine runs fine atm. Are you turning on all the emulation options in Daemon-Tools?

It seems to have installed ok. All the emulations are on, it's just so strange that i "Can" get into the game itself, but there isn't an option to play. that Arrow in the lower right allows you to click on it once, and then it disappears. Perhaps I'm missing a step?
I Install the game, patch it to 1.2.
Then I Use Daemon Tools (latest version) that mini disk you had me downoad, and then i go to 5.2 (just to try it) and that won't even let me play any games. I'm wondering if it's something internal that is missing.

yep np, sorry cannot get yours working, don't have a clue what the problem could be specially since the mod is just scripts which only change the game mechanics to make it more realistic, the exe for game is the same and does not get replaced, so kinda wierd 0o

Is it bad to have them all checked at the same time? Or are you supposed to have them checked? Right now mine is read because nothing is checked. (Yes, I'm a newb with this program)
Crypton
23-07-2005, 08:12 AM
no its not bad, I usually say check them all because its easier for the so called "newb" to just enable all instead of worrying about what type they need to enable. Meaning you wont have to find out what protection is on the game, just enable all the emulations and play. wont hurt anything.
But if you are wondering what protection Rome Total War uses, it is SafeDisc
but atm, if it is something like StarForce it wont work atm, till Daemon-Tools 4 is released (at least to my knowledge atm it should be able to bypass Starforce 3 at least)

Hey, I just started playing Rome:total war again, and I was wondering if I could get the mini-image thing for 1.2, because it's the only patch I can find.. I have no clue where my cd went.. Anyways, I also wanted to install the new realism mod v 1.6, so I was wondering if this would work with your patch, thanks

To the people with difficulties with Total Realism 6, patched to 1.2:
I tried the image from http://www.gameburnworld.com/gp/gamefixes/rometotalwar.shtml as said on this thread and activated all emulations on daemon tools, next I mounted the image, and then I took a look at the official site of the Mod team and found this step that made me finally play the game :
Using a text editor open the file named "preferences.txt" in your Rome Total War Installation directory and alter the line "FIRST_TIME_PLAY:TRUE"
to "FIRST_TIME_PLAY:FALSE"
It worked for me. Gonna try the campaign now to see how it works but at least it starts the single player.
Hope this helped.

Sorry to bump this back up, but...
Having an interesting problem with the mini images. Game is v 1.2, images are loaded with Daemon v3.47, etc. etc.
I can get into the game, and I can load previously saved games, but it refuses to let me start a new one. Attempting to click the 'start battle/campaign' arrow takes me back to the previous screen, and Quick Battle takes me to the menu.
Previous games work perfectly, and I'm fairly sure that it's nothing to do with the (very minor - bloody arrows and all-factions) mods, so anyone who could shed some light on this would be very much appreciated.
Thanks all.

Hi im a newbie here. I downloaded the game and mounted with Deamon Tools. But i cant play it because it says to put the dvd-rom. So i downloaded the no-cd/fixed exe but when i try to open it with winrar it says that it cant start because MSS32.DLL was not found.Plus i cant open even the reloaded.nfo file because of this. Can anyone help me please?
Crypton

MSS32 is a sound dll and wont refuse you opening a file. If anything it is trying to play an error sound like a system beep but cannot due to missing dll files.
Make sure you are using the latest WinRAR to open the RAR, as for theb nfo file, open it with notepad. Put the exe in the games folder replacing the old one.
If you still get problems You may want to scan your system for virus, as well as run sfc /sannow from the start menu > run
You will need your XP CD when you do that however.
You can download some missing dll files from http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?mss32
Be better to let SFC (System File Checker) using the XP CD and scan your system.
For the other person above, have you tried removing the mods and see if it works?

I have a problem. I have RTW. I have installed the 1.2 Patch but after that the game does not started so I have cracked the game using Crack from the basic RTW probably 1.0 or 1.1. Now it starts but when the first image shows the game returns to windows...
I've dowloaded the mini image, opened it in DaemonTool. A folder have opened(I don't know what to do next - HELP). First i thought that I have to start the game now but it still returns to Windows :/ :(
Is there a possibility to uninstall the 1.2 Patch without uninstalling the Rome Total War ??
Please Help Me.
P.S.
Sorry for My English but I am from Poland

I don not believe so, the only way to do that would be if you had backed up all the files that were replaced with new versions before patching.
Most likely you will have to reinstall. however, you should be able to backup saved games, but they may or may not work when going back to the older version after reinstalling the game.

You need it for Rome Total Realism mod, right?
The mod was updated to work with patch 1.5 and Barbarian Invasion patch 1.6. Still no ETA for a compatible version with Alexander, but they are working on it.

Update your videocard drivers, soundcard drivers and make sure you have the latest directx installed on your PC. Also what version of the game do you have? Are you sure that's v1.2?
I'm asking because there is a collection that offers Rome Total War with the Barbarian Invasion and Alexander expansions, and the game version for that is 1.9. There is also a version that has only RTW and Barbarian Invasion only, and that is 1.6 version.

Well, if you tell me what videocard and soundcard do you have, I can point you towards the right direction.

03-05-2009, 12:26 PM
ok well, if you need specifics just say, but the videocard version is 6.14.10.3943, driver producer Intel Coperation. It said its date is 2004 so i guess it is time for an update.. lol.
the soundcard version is.. 5.12.01.7000 but its quite current, 2008.
there was quuite a bit of infomation and im not sure which is important, but its called soundMAX intergrated digital audio, manufactured by Analog Devices.
Thanks so much for all of this!!
